Those BFGs are kind of massive overkill for a Maverick, especially a Hybrid. 44 lbs a piece adds a lot of rotational inertia and unsprung mass. Most XL load range tires are more than plenty without going to a full on 8-ply LT.

If you want something in that size with a real chunky AT look but on the lighter side maybe check the Toyo Open Country A/T III. It actually has the same load rating as the BFGs but is 10 lbs lighter.

What size do you recommend?

That's in that same 245/65R17 as the BFGs.

Personally I went with 235/65R17s just because it's a very common size so offers lots of options and I'm not really in the big tires just for looks crowd. I'd had good luck with Nokian AT tires for durability/longevity/traction on some company vehicles. Plus got a screaming deal on "Used" New [old stock?] from Discount Tire, although the particular Rotiiva ATs are now discontinued, replaced by the Outpost APT and AT. Still pretty regularly get 40+ MPG with them.

Hello , I got rid of those crappy Continentals and bought a set of 235. Wildpeaks from a club member in Huntsville Alabama He took them his Maverick Lariat I love them have 12,000 miles on them now rain, snow, ice, very hot weather, floods, dirt roads these Wildpeaks are great tires 😉👍. I live out in the middle of nowhere in West Tennessee uphill, downhill, sharp rights, sharp lefts, slam on the brakes because of wild life ECT The tires get a heck of a work out I Average 40. MPG Over 12,000 Miles Hope this helps you 👻🇺🇸👍😉

Has anyone changed out the stock tires on a hybrid for bigger tires? I want bigger tires, but I’m getting mixed reviews about the mpg’s. I expect a hit, but can you share with me your experience? What’s the mileage and what size tires did you get? Thanks
I put 20x9 (38.5 offset) Volvo
xC 90 wheels on mine. I
really haven't seen a dramatic loss of mpg. I'm only one tank in though. 275/40/20 tires. Oe tires were225/60/18. Lariat

If my Hybrid ever gets built, I have this set up for it. If you don't want to affect the mileage, you should try to stay close to stock sizes and tire weight (both have an effect on mpg).
My AWD EB is supposed to be built today, and when it gets here I will put this set up on that until I come up with something different. Let us know what you are going to put under your Hybrid and good luck!

Interesting, I have the same set of Mach E Selects waiting to go on my Mav when the current shoes need changed. I almost sold mine until I realized they were the same size.

Yes, it’s for looks but also the dirt roads we have here in Arizona. Obviously I can’t go off road in a hybrid, but I need a little bit more traction. But if I must be totally honest , they look great with bigger tires. I added black wheels and bushwhacker fenders, giving it a little bit more ruggedness.
What size tires do you have with the fenders? I put in the same fenders and the 225/65/17 looks out of place.

I have the XLT Hybrid with BF Goodrich, All Terrain T/A K02 tires, Size - 245/65/17 and I think they look awesome and have gotten up to 39MPG in the city and averaging 37MPG.

Did you lift this or is this a stock setup? Any rubbing while turning or hitting potholes? Thanks in advance!

I swapped the steelies and stock Contis 225/65/17 for Bronco sport wheels with Falken WildPeak ATW3 235/65/17 tires.

I weighed both. Steelie combo 49 lbs, Bronco wheels combo 54 lbs.

I averaged between 40 and 44 MPG (calculated) with the steelies and so far still over 40 MPG.
