Am I crazy? Looking for a taller tire but don’t want to sacrifice MPG with a wide one. I’m thinking of going tall and skinny like my old farm truck tires. Cooper Discoverer AT3 LT come in a 225/75/R17 size! 30.35 tall and 8.7 wide so 1.85 taller and 0.3 skinnier than the stock tire I have now. Tall skinny tires are great in the snow we get here. No idea what they would look like, no one has tried them yet. Would fill the wheel well better, no rubbing, and might not lose much mpg compared to the 9.5 tires many guys end up with. Crazy or not?

Not crazy. I like the purposeful look it would give

true about better in the snow, dependent on the tread. back when I was playing in the snow with some Jeep buddies my tall/skinny went where the wide tires failed.

Since you have the use case for it, why would it be crazy?
You don't need a reason ... if you like it/want to do it ... just show us pics please :)

This is the exact tire and size I’m considering. The only real downside is the weight. There have been no tires I could find in this size that are not 10ply E rated. So going to be 50lbs approximately. I really am strongly considering this size but I’m scared my hybrid will loose significant mpg not just 2-4. Has anyone tried this size ??

I think that the taller sidewall is a good look, and I have mounted the tallest tires that my trucks could accommodate.

Does the Maverick mileage calculator possess a learning function to adjust for changes in environment? For instance, the latest model of the BMW i3 recalculates range and mileage estimates based upon the outside temperatures, the current driver's driving style, and the GPS coordinates (hilly vs flat, I think). I would be interested to learn whether or not Ford's mileage calculations adjust over time for tire size.

Please post some pictures once you have them mounted.

Im considering the same thing but not sure about that skinny. I would also go aggressive on the tread if can. If you are doing any offroading that is. Wish I could find a 235/75r17 in a mud tire.

The 235/75R17 is too big without a lift. The 245/70R17 Toyo AT3 is 30.6 and that’s the biggest you can go without a lift. The 225/75R17 is 30.35 so actually a little less “stuffed” than the Toyo in sidewall fit and should give a lot better gas mileage. There are 235/70 but I was looking for a taller tire.

Yeah Im not doing anything till I burn that Falkens off it. But I think they will fit on the Tremor, if not there are some good lift options out there. My main goal is ground clearance and bite. Those are the two biggest factors that keep you moving. Once that belly hits terra its all over.

I am not going to do it yet however when I need tires for mine those 60 series tires are history. The 70 or 75 series ride better and reduce the chance of tearing up a rim.
I did that with my Jeep Patriot. The ride change was like night and day.

I personally really dig the tall and skinny look too, more classic/ “purposeful” as someone said above. Super curious to see what it looks like on the Mav, please post when you do it.
