I'd like to hear about accessories, especially aftermarket. Something that you thought you just couldn't live without, but ended up not needing. Then, what accessory you think is a better alternative. This is for entertainment purposes, haha...

BS accessory: Any type of phone holder that's more than $20 bucks. All this "fits" cubby crap on Etsy is way overpriced, up to $60 for an unnecessary phone holder. I've got android auto plugged in. Everything is on the main screen. I have not had to touch my phone in months. Unless you're gonna watch pron, a phone holder seems totally unnecessary.

Alt accessory: Any of these cheap towel seat covers. These things are like $20 bucks, maybe 50 for a nice one. I'll use them every damn day in the summer. Pool, lake, beach, mountain biking, you name it.

If you couldn't tell, I don't like unnecessary crap. I'm glad I decided to turn on my brain for once before buying a phone holder. I'll pass...

What's your BS accessory?

I saw a post on here the other day of someone selling leather key fob covers. A custom leather cover... for a plastic key fob...? I just cannot understand why. In all my years of owning vehicles I've never had an issue with a key fob getting damaged or felt it needed a cover of any sort.

Yeah, I spent $6 on my phone holder (two for $12 on Amazon):

3D printed a cubby thingie to attach it to for a few pennies.

Works great!

The leather part I don't understand, but the fob holder I bought was cheap rubber type of material that has a clip so I can clip it to my belt loop when my pocket is full for that abnormally large fob. Went rubber case because at work it may get wet or dirty being outside of my pocket so it protects it and saves me from having to replace the fob.

I too wish the FOB were smaller to more easily for in my pocket. Hoping some third party makes them!

I have the towel seat covers in my Maverick. I also don't understand why Maverick drivers need phone holders either. Like you, I use AA in my truck and don't ever look at my phone screen while driving.

I know I am only one of four people who feel this way, and to those who believe in them, I say God bless you, but why install a tailgate device to let it down. I am 76 and have had 2 lower back surgeries, open heart surgery last year with 5 bypasses, and I have ZERO trouble letting the tailgate down. Yes, if someone has problems in the upper torso or something, I understand, but for able bodied men, it just does not make sense unless laziness comes into play.

I agree that the tailgate damper is not necessary. Basically a waste of money. I rented a Frontier over the weekend, I didn't miss it there either. Rather install a soft close toilet seat.

BS accessory: Tailgate damper

Alt accessory: Adding waterproof weather stripping to the tailgate for cheap. Youtube it...

That is precisely why I put the seat covers on mine. I don't want to mess up my brand new seats after getting all muddy/dusty after going riding, or greasy from working in the shop. Seat covers are cheap compared to replacing the seat material.

I bought a box to put in my cubby & hold my phone and change. It didn't fit well, so I got rid of it.

I created a way to run a hidden cable from the input on the dashboard to the place where the phone can sit. I can drop the phone on it & plug it in & unplug it one-handed. That's the best upgrade I've done by far. Below is a link to what I did.

I think you're confusing need with convenience. I don't NEED a tailgate assist anymore than I need power windows, locks, or mirrors or cruise control. But all those things are very convenient.

The tailgate assist makes life a little easier. I can just open and let it go. A handful of times over the last 25 years of truck ownership, the tailgate slipped out of my hand and slammed down. Not a big deal, but a little annoying. Like the other stuff (pw, pl, pm, & cc), a tailgate assist is a nice convenience. Wouldn't you agree?

Since I have many wee ones running around the house and yard (all eleven of my grandkids live in town) I would rather none of them get smacked in the head with the tailgate. I know the chances that it happens are low, but for $30 it's one less thing to worry about when the grandkids come to visit.
