When I got my truck back from having a spray in bed liner done, it had similar dents in the tailgate. I tried pushing them out from the inside too, but I stopped out of fear that I could make things worse. I don't know what I'm doing when it comes to dents. I don't even notice them now, but I plan to install a Tailgate Applique - Satin Black, which will cover that area.

Just a thought, I wonder if the tailgate assist would have softened the blow.

I was installing my soft roll up cover this afternoon. I had a tape measure to check I had equal length on side rails. Well, I put the tape measure on the bumper and opened the tailgate onto it. Got to small dents from tape measure belt clip. Hard to see unless you’re at an angle and minor paint damage, but I still know they are there. Could’ve been worse I guess.

I then thought I’ll take off the tailgate cover and try to smack them out from inside, but there is a brace that prevents me from getting to bottom of the tailgate where the dents are.

Edit: Here’s a better pic. There are two small impressions. Kind of hard to see except at specific angles.

Can you post a link to the letters you have installed? Thanks!

I wondered the same. That's one thing I havent added to mine yet, sadly.
Can reach in there with something like a spoon? Run backside of spoon over the dents.
I might try this next weekend when I have some time to play with it again.

That reminds me of a photo I saw somewhere. Somebody had welded a large plumbers wrench to the top of their pickup tailgate/sidewall like they had forgotten and left it there.

It was where any car behind you could see it.

Ever since they welded the wrench to their pickup they have had no problems with anyone tailgating them. :)

With the posts with photos of Mavericks which have been totaled by being rear ended I will be tempted to do the same when I get my Maverick

yeah that's the thing, isn't it...you know it is there. But sort of like a home project, the biggest critic is typically yourself despite something that nobody else would ever notice. On the potential bright side maybe somebody will eventually rear end your truck and you'll get a new tailgate. So something to ....eh...well...look forward to.

Thanks for sharing....we all know better now than to leave something on the bumper...Sounds like something I'd do. You might try a suction pad (like off of a GPS mount) to see if it will pull out...or one of the dent shops might look-see if it's doable. Wife got hit with a golf ball and my GPS suction mount with a little water pulled it right back out.

The dentless repair shops all have the pro-sunction cup devices and use it when it will work. The Maverick’s sheet metal is very thin.
Yes dent repair guys have all sorts of weird looking tools to get into places like that.

I bought a new S10 in 2002 and the first time I washed it I was vacuuming the interior and to save time walking around the truck I pulled on the extension cord which pulled the shop vac into the passenger door (open) and left a small dent so think we have all been there.
It would drive me nuts so call a paint-less dent repair guy and they can do wonders. No suction cup will get those little dents out.

I have the same dent from leaving a hitch receiver on there. 😂
Count me in as having the same beauty mark from a ratchet when installing my tonneau cover. 2nd day I had the truck.
