I have more time than money...but I still let the dealer give me "the works" on all three of my Fords. All under warranty, so I know they will tell me if they see something that needs attention.
Once my Maverick is out of warranty and has some miles on it I am cautious of the "works" because they sometimes want silly money for some services like changing cabin or air filters. I can do some of that maintenance myself. I used to do all my oil changes but now if price isn't unreasonable I just let the dealer do it.

Yes. I spent literally decades doing all my service work myself. It used to be simpler...setting points, changing plugs and brake pads, etc.

Now I'll probably reduce my activity to mostly Cabin Air filters, Engine air filters and windshield wipers. I never had to replace a lightbulb in 20 years with my Chevy S-10.

My old Ford dealer was charging $49.95 plus tax for the Works on my C-Max...and after 3, the 4th one was free! Not sure what this new dealer will charge.

I am going to have to ask them where they get their gas. When I picked up my Maverick, it said 337 miles to empty when the odometer said 40 miles. NOW it says 338 miles to empty and the odometer is at 180 miles. Is my truck manufacturing gas as a side feature?

It uses historical driving data to predict how efficiently you drive, and multiplies that by how much fuel you have in the tank. When the vehicle is new, it has no data to go on so it estimates low, and if you drive more efficiently, you can see the DTE (distance to empty) stay flat or even increase as you drive.

Yes, I really do understand that....same thing with my C-Max. But I would still like to have my fantasy that it is generating fuel as I drive...

During my driving over the course of the day today, I picked up enough loose change or gas to go another ~32 miles! ;)

Final found a ratings difference between Kirkland and as example Mobil 1
Kirkland
Labeled: API SN PLUS/ILSAC GF-5

Mobil 1
Labeled: API SN PLUS/ILSAC GF-6
Here are six things you should know about GF-6:

  1. What do the new GF-6 standards mean for my engine?
ILSAC standards are constantly evolving and improving to meet changing industry demands. The popularization of turbocharged engines among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) has led to a new focus on turbocharger-specific standards for GF-6. The primary purpose of GF-6 is to combat problems with LSPI, a common issue with turbocharged engines. As in the 2018 upgrade of API SN to API SN Plus, the new ILSAC GF-6 standards also require added protection against the harmful effects of LSPI in today’s modern turbocharged engines.
  2. What is LSPI and how does it affect my engine?
LSPI creates excessive pressure within the engine’s cylinders, which can cause permanent damage to cylinder walls, pistons, piston rings, connecting rods and spark plugs. The internal engine damage caused by LSPI can also lead to catastrophic engine failure. Learn more about LSPI and its effects on your engine.
  3. Do Mobil™ motor oils meet GF-6 standards?
Yes, our Mobil 1™, Mobil Super™, and Mobil™ Full Synthetic motor oils meet and exceed ILSAC GF-6 specifications.
  4. When can I purchase the new GF-6 engine oils?
We will be launching the new Mobil 1 ILSAC GF-6 engine oils on a rolling basis. You will see products with updated packaging on store shelves within the coming months. By summer of 2020, all of our packages will reflect the change.
  5. Will GF-6 apply to every kind of viscosity grade?
Almost. There will be a split between 0W-16 viscosity grade engine oils and all other existing ILSAC viscosity grades. GF-6A will represent existing ILSAC viscosity grades and GF-6B will represent 0W-16 viscosity grade oils only.
  6. Does my vehicle need an ILSAC GF-6 engine oil?
ExxonMobil advises checking your vehicle’s owner’s manual to determine if your engine requires an ILSAC GF-6 engine oil.

This is either old or wrong. Kirkland Signature is currently API SP and GF-6A.

You can look at all the oils Warren Distribution produces here and what the classifications are.

What you guys are failing to understand is that although WSS… meets GF-6A and API SP, they do NOT meet the WSS spec. Mobil 1 even makes TWO SEPARATE 0W-20 blends, both are GF-6A and API SP, but only the EXTENDED PERFORMANCE MOBIL 1 meets the MORE STRINGENT WSS-M2C947A1 and WSS-M2C947B1. Read labels.

Do what you want, but this same argument played out 2015-2017 with fords diesel oil spec. For years, Shell Rotella T6 (full synthetic) was the ‘gold standard’ in diesel motor oil. When the gen2 6.7 diesel came out Ford specified WSS-M2C171-F1 for their diesels. Rotella did not meet the spec (at the time) and folks made these same arguments. You need to see the WSS on the bottle.

Ford dealers are very adept at checking fuel and oil to be sure failures are their fault before replacing engines. It’s like there are a bunch of drama llamas on this site that like to split hairs just to argue.

Rant over

I don't believe the manual says you're required to use oil that meets the Ford internal specifications.

It's about giving the service guys an excuse not to cover stuff.

If ford has a spec, and the book says ‘use this oil’, why is that so hard?

I cannot find where in the manual it says the spec is required.

I fully may be an idiot because I cannot find where in the manual it says the spec is required.
