Are you back to the very first post...where the OP posted this as lacking the FORD certification?
That is the assumption posed by this thread, it hasn't been proven and is most likely an incorrect assumption. Still waiting for OP to respond with the Product Data Sheet for the Kirkland Signature product sourced from Warren Distribution. There's every reason to believe said document lists the current Ford specs for their appropriate grades (0w20, 5w30, etc). The retail packaging doesn't list every single compliant spec but rather the ones marketing chose to highlight.

WSS-M1C961-A1 appears to be a Ford specification (the most current version is from August 4, 2022 according to GlobalSpec) that calls for the oil used to meet the ILSAC-GF6 specification. Additionally, the manual calls for it to display the API Certification Mark for gasoline engines. The Kirkland Signature oil from Warren Distribution does both.

Ok so lets look at what ILSAC GF-6A is:

Now compare that information to Motorcraft:

That requirement protects against LOW SPEED PRE-IGNITION (LSPI). These new oil standards are recently put in place because newer vehicle engines are going more toward using turbochargers. Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 is just the rebrand of the ILSAC GF-6 specification. It is basically the same thing.

Here's a webinar on that new standard:

The Kirkland jug of 5W30 synthetic I have in my hand does say it meets ILSAC GF-6A so that screenshot is not accurate.
Ford requires WSS certification not just ILSAC

Good 2 go as far I know or care!
Do you see the Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 specification as required in the owners manual, no. then does not meet required warranty requirement. Good news, if you buy a GM vehicle, it can be used on it.

I am the OP and I cannot find the MSDS anywhere for Costco synthetic. To assume that since one Warren Oil product meets Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 specification then all must is flawed. The label clearly stated it is Dexos approved for a GM, but not Chrysler or Ford, hmmmm. At this point someone else needs to prove that Costco synthetic does meet Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 as it is nowhere on their packaging.

Final found a ratings difference between Kirkland and as example Mobil 1
Kirkland
Labeled: API SN PLUS/ILSAC GF-5

Mobil 1
Labeled: API SN PLUS/ILSAC GF-6
Here are six things you should know about GF-6:

  1. What do the new GF-6 standards mean for my engine?
ILSAC standards are constantly evolving and improving to meet changing industry demands. The popularization of turbocharged engines among Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) has led to a new focus on turbocharger-specific standards for GF-6. The primary purpose of GF-6 is to combat problems with LSPI, a common issue with turbocharged engines. As in the 2018 upgrade of API SN to API SN Plus, the new ILSAC GF-6 standards also require added protection against the harmful effects of LSPI in today’s modern turbocharged engines.
  2. What is LSPI and how does it affect my engine?
LSPI creates excessive pressure within the engine’s cylinders, which can cause permanent damage to cylinder walls, pistons, piston rings, connecting rods and spark plugs. The internal engine damage caused by LSPI can also lead to catastrophic engine failure. Learn more about LSPI and its effects on your engine.
  3. Do Mobil™ motor oils meet GF-6 standards?
Yes, our Mobil 1™, Mobil Super™, and Mobil™ Full Synthetic motor oils meet and exceed ILSAC GF-6 specifications.
  4. When can I purchase the new GF-6 engine oils?
We will be launching the new Mobil 1 ILSAC GF-6 engine oils on a rolling basis. You will see products with updated packaging on store shelves within the coming months. By summer of 2020, all of our packages will reflect the change.
  5. Will GF-6 apply to every kind of viscosity grade?
Almost. There will be a split between 0W-16 viscosity grade engine oils and all other existing ILSAC viscosity grades. GF-6A will represent existing ILSAC viscosity grades and GF-6B will represent 0W-16 viscosity grade oils only.
  6. Does my vehicle need an ILSAC GF-6 engine oil?
ExxonMobil advises checking your vehicle’s owner’s manual to determine if your engine requires an ILSAC GF-6 engine oil.

@BDennis there you go. The API/ILSIC GF rating is the one to pay attention to. You are suggesting that there is a difference between the Ford WSS specification and the GF rating, when in reality they are one and the same. More precisely, the Ford specification is a direct reference to the GF6A cert.

FMC does not perform and produce industry-standard fluid specification. They don’t even produce their own lubricants; someone else does, and Ford just publishes a “spec” to cover themselves as far as proper recommendations.

Not quite right.

Ford is heavily involved in fluid specifications. They issue requirements.
They are active at ILSAC politically & technically,
and many times require performance over the baseline API/ILSAC specs alone.

In the past, Ford & GM, when they didn't get their way on the ILSAC technical committees to get some new test or requirement into the baseline API/ILSAC specs, would simply issue their own spec (a new Ford WSS- spec or for a GM, a new version of dexos1)
........which had the "extra" stuff in it.

One recent past example of Ford's modus operandi:
WSS-M2C913-D added on 5 things:
•TBN > 10
• Ford-specific chain wear test
• Daimler oxidation test in accordance with DIN 51453
• ROBO Test in accordance with ASTM D 7528 or Seq. IIIGA in accordance with ASTM D 7320
• Additional elastomer seal tests.

There is about a 50% chance Ford added some "requirements" on top of the baseline SP/GF-6A specs. (That 50% chance based on seeing what Ford has done with specs in the last 15 years or so.)

So it could be SP/GF-6A is identical to the latest Ford WSS- specs for the Maverick.
Sometimes they just leave it alone and go with the basic API/ILSAC spec.

The only thing that matters on an oil jug or bottle you buy is these WSS numbers printed there:
Ford WSS-M2C962-A1 (0w-20 for the Hybrid only)
Ford WSS-M2C961-A1 (5w-30 for Ecoboost only)
Ford WSS-M2C963-A1 (0w-30, Ecoboost only when you might start it at below -10F)

I got butter on my popcorn while I let the dealer change my oil. Don't know what oil costs at big box stores but I got the "works" including a tire rotation for $74 and used my ford points. :)

I have more time than money...but I still let the dealer give me "the works" on all three of my Fords. All under warranty, so I know they will tell me if they see something that needs attention.
