After my last post of buying a Corolla after my circumstances changed, I cancelled a second order but left another in place that was not price protected, XLT Hybrid.

While I have never received one email from Ford on this order I was contacted today and informed my Maverick Hybrid is on it’s way to the dealer and received the VIN.

While there is zero reason to how Ford deals with its orders it appears my dealer prioritized my order due to an earlier issue.

Now I’m unsure if I should take delivery and keep, cancel, or purchase and sell or something else.

Dealer wants it. He sees ADM coming his way if you don’t take it.

Just love the people that order and then get another vehicle without canceling their order resulting in the dealer getting it to charge a markup. If it had been canceled someone else would of had their order built sooner.

Yes, they are adding the $500 price increase but everything else is the same from last Septembers order that includes the tow hitch but nothing else.

Unfortunately, not true. I cancelled the other order but the order remains in Fords system. The dealer will just sell. If I could have cancelled both orders directly with Ford, I would have.

I don't believe ANY dealer has actually cancelled ANY Maverick order just because the customer told him early that they weren't going to buy it. They just grin and wait for the order, modifying it if they want, and know they will get a bunch of ADM.

So bottom line, telling the dealer you don't want your order isn't really going to help anyone else get a Maverick faster without ADM.

Not sure how many times people have to say that there's no such thing as "cancelling their order". That's not how it works but while you're at it you may as well shake your fist in anger at them for ordering more than one Maverick.

I am convinced that Ford has basically created a Rube Goldberg machine as a marketing tactic and whoever sits at the top must get a lot of enjoyment out of the whole thing. Essentially nothing has changed from the basic manufacturer dealer model that has existed for decades. People chase their tails all day long. The dealer plays their part. Ultimately the customer finally gets a vehicle and record profits are enjoyed by the other parties.

My arm is already sore from shaking my fist at that also.

A non refundable deposit made to Ford could fix that last part but Ford does everything half assed, at least they're consistent

What amazed me that dealers didn't do (at least that I've seen) (Before Ford said selling more than x% to people other than orderer = allocation reduction in future years) is cold call their existing customers and ask them if they can place orders in their names to sell. Would be an easy pitch right? Hey, let me order this truck for you... No obligation to take... No deposit... If it arrives and you want it, hey great. If not, I'll sell it on the lot and we'll throw you $500 in service department vouchers/some other incentive; and you don't lift a finger through the entire process. I can only guess that even the dealers who saw the shortage coming were shocked by how much of a markup they were able to get on Mavericks last year.

Best case, they get a ton of extra inventory. Worst case... they get their regulars trucks that noone was able to get at the time... look like heros... get them to upgrade/buy new before they had planned to... and probably get a trade-in right at the peak of the used market last year when trade-in's were worth their weight in gold. Can't figure why we didn't see that happening. It can't be because they were afraid of Ford not allowing it. Ford let them do whatever they wanted and barely gave them a "tisk tisk".

No need to be that complicated.

They can just have every employee at the dealership order a Maverick. I would think that even a mid-size dealership would have a couple of dozen employees.
