More hybrid issues. I'm just keeping mine just in case there's a class action lawsuit I can get a settlement check!

Taking into account emotional damage! Lol! You come out with our dream truck only to be plague with problems!

I know it has to be low cost to make but I would have preferred a solid hybrid engine over the other useless features like lane keeping assist, auto wipers and headlights, auto hold, etc...

I just want a solid hybrid drivetrain and performance like the Rav4 in a truck form!
Waiting for class-action? Emotional damage? Really? What exactly has been your experience with your dealer?
My hybrid Mav has been great for 5200 miles. 44mpg over that distance. The only issue has been with the 12v system powering some of the driven-convenience things. But it's at the dealer getting that looked at.

Just wait until all those EB's have 50k+ miles on them and the valves don't seat anymore. I think the consumer is about to have a big wake up call about the current Direct Injection system.
I had a fusion titanium with the same 2.0L EB and it had 195,000 miles when I sold it.

The thing about that list of seemingly endless codes it that without knowing what each of them are, it really doesn't mean anything. Lemon law, unreliability, it's all easy to talk about without more details on the issue.

While carbon build up on the Ecoboost 2.0 is a thing, it's not something that you should actively fret about. Use good oil and gas, and you should be easily good to 100k. I've got 115k on mine, and it runs flawlessly. The moment I start throwing codes or notice performance degradation, I will look into getting it done as it does exist. I guess you could do it earlier like a lot of car maintenance but I don't see the point.

I have a Maverick on order so I have been waiting and also, my engine has a different head design for coolant flow that is well....a potential time bomb so there is that.

I am sure you didn't anticipate all of the fault codes appearing. If you did take it to the dealership each and every time were the codes actual problems or glitches ?
If you resided in California the Bureau of Automotive Repair may deem your Maverick a lemon and get it replaced or refunded.

What, exactly, is wrong with the "exhaust"?

Even if the exhuast gets repaired, and all things seem well, I’m not sure if continuing with the hybrid would be a smart move. I might move on to the ecoboost or another truck. I’ve had older cars have no issues and this is brand new. How disappointing!

I had my 2.0L EB fuel system cleaned at the dealership at 100,000 miles because it threw the code and then shuddered under full throttle. Fixed it right up.

That's an awesome testimony for the 2.0 EB reliability and the carbon buildup concerns. Use good Tier 1 gasoline, full synthetic oil/filter change every 5,000 miles, proper maintenance and the concern should be limited IMO

It doesn't. I used it every 3k miles on my Focus ST just before I changed the oil. At 30k I removed the intake manifold to check the valves and they were absolutely covered in carbon, on the stem and the valve head. I also had a catch can system on it so that didn't do much either.
I was wondering if EB owners with carbon issues are using low-grade ga… My spouse worked for an oil refinery two decades. Their own research said that switching between Chevron and Shell every few tanks kept carbon and varnish to a minimum. Spouse worked for Chevron.

That's good info, I always use Tier 1 gasoline but the majority of the time one brand. I will put that into practice. Thank You

That's impressive and what I expect from today's vehicles. I assume it was a turbo also. Did you do anything special during your ownership or have any undue repairs?

The only problem is that the 2.0 Ecoboost is direct injected, gas never touches the valves so it has nothing to do with gas. It also doesn't really have to do with blow by gasses as much as it does oil seeping through the valve guides and then caking up into a giant ring on the valve stem. Carbon build up in the piston rings could be affected by fuel quality but it's really more a byproduct of oil burning but that's another maintenance discussion in and of itself.

Was this procedure very invasive and costly?
