I just noticed today when I went to start my Maverick, the generic ford chime no longer made the pleasant “Duh Dee Dah” noise and now sounds more like a mid 90s high pitched chime instead.

It does it whether I put the key in the ignition with the door open or closed and now sounds like it’s coming from the steering wheel instead of the car speakers.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Update: It’s the same sound but it plays through the hidden speaker in the steering column instead of the car speakers which is why it sounds high pitched and distorted.

I heard that once yesterday, then it cleared up. I haven't been able to duplicate it again.

No sure about the 90s chime sound.

check out this F150 forum. Seems like this happens from time to time but goes back to normal like @Bushpilot said.

Very strange. It's no big deal but the truck feels "Cheaper" with that chime instead of the original one. I did disable the automatic highbeams and when I clicked the back button afterwards, my radio went up to full volume for a split second and then went back to normal.

I did notice on my Hybrid, the engine kicks on earlier when taking off from a stop than it did before. Maybe the battery is low? Haven't got any warnings about it though.

Any updates on this OP? I noticed it happens more frequently on cold starts in the morning.

I am %99 sure it was because my 12v battery was draining. Once it goes under a certain voltage, it plays through the steering column speaker instead of the car speakers. If you have been getting deep sleep mode FordPass app notifications as well, it could be a sign you have the major issue my car and a few other peoples Mavs have. (Bad parasitic drain.)

Interesting. It doesnt happen all the time for me. I plan on getting the battery checked again at next oil change. Where you able to get anywhere with the dealer?

Not yet. My car has been at the dealer for a month. I’m currently driving an Ecosport loaner. Will call tomorrow and ask for an update.

A month for this issue or another? That really sucks, hope they arent charging you for the loaner.

Well about a week and a half after I noticed the different door chime sound, my Mav died. I took it into the dealer, they changed the 12v battery, it died a week later again and the check engine light and Hybrid cooling system failure light (red triangle) illuminated on the dash. So I assumed that was the reason for it. They had to call a an engineer to the dealership to look at my Mav but I haven’t been updated since. That was about a week ago.

And luckily the loaner is free (as it should be.) Already put 1000 miles on it but it sucks going from a 42mpg Maverick to a 23mpg Ecosport.

Yes, that is an indicator that the 12v battery voltage is low. On all Ford vehicles, that happens when the battery is in a discharged or slightly discharged state and will go back to normal once the 12v battery is fully charged.

It could be an indicator that your Maverick has the wiring harness issue which there should be a recall for that causes the battery to drain. Lots of threads about that issue on this forum. If you have the FordPass app, you will also get notifications on your phone that say "Deep sleep mode".
