I am researching hard bed covers and although I remember seeing a thread on this subject months ago, I actually now have a truck to put it on. Anyone that has installed one on their truck and likes it, Please let me know who and what info. Thank you in advance.

Do you care if it can fold up against the rear window or not?

After asking up here I had lots of replies. It's All about what you want to have. Big heavy, thin stylish. I personally purchased Gator FX. Thin and hard. 25 min to install with some adjustments. Problem is if you get standard trifold cover and fold over all pars half of your bed is covered. With gator FX you can actually fold it again, and leave it securely against back window. I had to enlarge some of the holes on cover it self they pre-drill some of them way to small for the screws they gave. Same with holes on the rail.

Thank You for your Reply, I am looking seriously at the Gator FX, I have read comments that sound like it's a bifold, not tri fold. Can you tell me how many sections as I cannot see it in your photo but do see the rods for securing it against the cab.

I am not sure but I do like the idea and thats how the Ford offered cover works. I have also looked at the quick removal light weight covers so I'm not set either way.

Thank you for the better photo, you may have just made up my mind. I thought some of my conversations were with Gator but it turned out it is Real Truck and if they get me close to your price I think my mind will be made up.

I was just planning on making a similar thread 😅 I feel like there is an overwhelming amount of options for tonneau covers for these trucks (bakflip, gator, rough country, truxedo, retrax, etc), it would be nice to have a consolidated thread with a nice breakdown list ordered by style (fold, roll, retract, etc) and then price/review links for them.

This Maverick will be the first truck I've owned, so I have never shopped for any kind of bed cover before. I was initially leaning towards a tri-fold style like the RC, but I've seen a lot of roll-ups now that look pretty slick.

I also don't really understand what makes some of these so spendy. Like you can get a tri-fold Gator SFX for as little as 300, but then a Gator FX tri-fold for 950, or the Gator Trio tri-fold in the middle at 750. It is just how it mounts to the bed/rails? low profile vs thicker profile?

Id like to stay in the 500-800 range for a trifold, just hard to know which to pick when so many companies offer a similar product.

IIRC, the Gator SFX is a "soft" trifold vinyl cover...not hard and it sits on top of the bed rails That is why it is so much cheaper.
The Gator FX is Aluminum and sits flush with the bed rails
The Gator Trio is Aluminum, but it sit on top of your bed vs flush

It wouldn't surprise me that a lot of these various covers are not made in the same factory....

All of the low priced covers are basically just vinyl stretched over a frame. It will cover the bed area but would not give much security and water intrusion is more likely. I have a fabric cover on my 72 El Camino SS and I hate it as it collects moisture and debris, sags in the middle. I have also considered the roll ups but don't like the idea of Velcro that keeps it in place on many designs. Tri folds are what I am leaning towards as retractable styles are just to pricey.
