Is this part safe to remove or is there an aftermarket replacement or does it not matter?

Ford Maverick Is this part safe to remove or is there an aftermarket replacement or does it not matter? mav intak

This part of the intake is very narrow. IT seems like it would be a restriction to airflow. It is possible to remove it and just leave to hole into the airbox. Or is there an aftermarket replacement that is a wider pipe? Or is it not worth it for a stock engine.

I know there will be 100 different opinions and thoughts on this. I don't want to get made fun of or demeaned. I have heard that fresh air outside is possibly better than engine bay air, but with an open airbox it might get much more air with this piece missing. The best option seems to be an aftermarket piece that allows for much more air, but I couldn't find if there is one.

There seems to be a shortage of filters in my area. Nobody has them. My dealer is stocking aftermarket cabin air filters. All the local parts stores could not even order me a filter. K&N what the only thing available. I found a green filter and installed it. Their claim is they are a middle ground between airflow and K&N letting everything in. They claim to filter to 5 microns. I hope it is true, but with the extra airflow they say they allow this funnel seems to be a choke point.

Maybe I am just bore today and over thinking it, maybe I can get an extra 3-5 HP. I don't know and am asking for honest, non-insulting advice or help.

Having cool air that duct provides is better than hot air taken from right behind the radiator in that area. There is a new improved option coming to the market. Doubt anything aftermarket will make a big difference on a stock engine.

I figured a replacement that let more air in would be a cheap option for a few HP. I have heard that any gain from a cold air intake would be lost with the heat from being in the engine bay.

Thanks for the info.

gotta ask, why do you suppose Ford went to the expense of adding the fresh air intake tubing if it didn't provide some benefit?

you could ask why they add a cat converter that lowers power.

If you read my whole post I acknowledge that there is a reason and I ask for honest non sarcastic replies. Guess there are things we will never understand.

Certainly wasn't Ford's choice or desire to add that catalytic converter. They were forced to do that.

When I had my Focus ST tuned by Bren Tuning I reached out to them to find out their recommendation on a few different parts, when it came to intake they said just use a drop in dry filter with the stock airbox because it was capable of supporting way more horsepower than the stock block could even take. Looking at it you would have never guessed. Considering it was an earlier iteration of the Maverick's 2.0 I'm sure it's the same story for the Maverick airbox

Just put an intake on it, then you can hear turbo noises.

I have heard that as well. I had the 1.0 in my focus and was told that air intake would never be an hinderance. I assume it is the same now, but technology changes so fast. I just want to make sure.

I'm not seeing any sarcasm in @fossil's response to you. It was a valid point.
I openly admitted that I don't know an answer to something and asked for others opinions on why they think something would not wouldn't work.

@fossil did not offer anything productive. Instead implying that I should know better then to ask a question.

Much like @dodgeboost's reply insinuates that I just want to waste money for cool sounds. Instead of having someone educate me on something I don't know.

It is frustrating going through these forums with legit questions and having to wade through sarcasm and insults to learn something. Sorry for the rant.

There are no opinions, only engineering and testing fact.

Leave it alone.

where would I find this info? Honestly, I don't know where to look besides YouTube and the contradictory results are astounding to me. I want to better educate myself but there seems to be nowhere to turn for unbiased information.
