My 9yo cannot ride more than 10 minutes in the back seat of the Mav without experiencing really bad car sickness episodes. He is prone of motion sickness, especially on spinning theme park/fair/carnival rides and occasionally (like once or twice a year) in the middle row of the Subaru Ascent if we're driving a long time on rough and/or twisty roads.

Anyone else finding the Mav's back seat to be a car sickness accelerant?

I find the backseat of most compact SUV to be a little rough for that. Never been in the backseat of the Maverick, but I can imagine it's not much different.

Is he looking at a phone or game screen while riding? If so, he will need to stop it. If not, sucking on lemon wedge or eating some ginger snap cookies can help some folks. At any rate, motion sickness is terrible and I feel sorry for the little guy :(

Maybe in the summer...was -17F this morning!
You must be in the warm part of Maine. -24 here. I think below freezing it is inhumane to make your children ride in the bed.

Here are 2 facts about motion sickness:
1. When you first experience it you are afraid you are going to die.
2. When it doesn’t let up you are afraid you are NOT going to die!

Well, I should have added, before trips, but a permanent solution non the less. My sister also ‘conned’ her avoidance of car sickness can be cured with salt water taffy. ( that actually seems to work)

Sunglasses. Dark ones. Half of motion sickness is vision vs equilibrium. Plus they make you feel cool. Also get him talking. This comes from experience.

I had this issue growing up. Search Amazon for "car anti static strip". Worked for me 50 years ago.

Yikes. I feel for him. Motion sickness is the worst, but here are some things that help:
- Keeping a window open
- Sitting or laying down horizontally.
- Some dramamine
- Some ear-plugs and gum (works wonders on a plane)
- Anti-motion sickness goggles (they look weird but it's worth a shot)

Oh no not this thread back from hibernation. Not my best advice shown here. Did anything work for OPs kid? The space in the back does appear more confined then arm and legs fit ok. Center back seat could be helpful. Also if the kids in the back are not full height their headrests aren’t really needed and can provide more apparent space/light sources if removed. ( also helps driver view)
