Receiving a WhatsApp Phone Call

Sorry if this has already been covered, but I DID search and didn't find it. Yesterday I took possession of my XLT Hybrid Maverick. On the way back to the KC metro from Salina, KS (Long McArthur customer) I got a WhatsApp phone call from my wife, but I could not figure out how to answer it.

I assume the middle of the three "phone" buttons on the right side of the steering wheel is the right one to push to receive a phone call, but that didn't work.

Ideas?

So you got a phone call, through an app, through a phone, through a truck, and you couldnt answer it? My guess is you took too many steps to make a phone call. You could try to dial 0 and ask your operator.

First question Is have you added your phone to the Maverick via Bluetooth yet?

Looks like you need a Samsung or Pixel phone for that app to work through Android Auto. Otherwise you probably have to answer the call on your phone and the sound should go over Bluetooth through the truck.

Did you have your phone connected to the Maverick, via USB (or wireless adapter) for Apple Carplay or Android auto? If not you won't be able to take calls from an app, other than the default phone app, at least as far as I know.

Yes, the dealership representative heled me do that before I left the lot.

Do you see the WhatsApp app in Android Auto. I just tried on my Moto Ace 5g I have lying around and it's there, never used it.
If not, try going to Android Auto Customize Launcher and see if you can add WhatsApp.

There are probably technical work arounds to get it to function, but it looks like it's a feature that should be coming soon-ish.

I am able to get WhatsApp text messages just fine, so that part of the app is working.

Try making a WhatsApp call and then getting in your truck to see if it will engage the handsfree phone.

I have noticed on Teams that it will work but it will not answer a Teams call unless I grab my phone and answer on there. And then it just magically starts a bluetooth handsfree session.

BTW why would your wife call you on WhatsApp anyway? I assume she called right back on your cell number or you called her that way.

Habit. I have been working outside the USA a lot since 2010, (six years in South Africa, eighteen months in China, and the last two years in Brazil and I just got back in December) and using WhatsApp when I am international is really handy. So that's what she's used to doing.
