Wont make call unless phone screen unlocked

I have had this issue on my 2023 xlt hybrid . My phone a Moto G stylus has had this issue for a while and I thought my NEW phone i got today a Moto G Power 5g 2024 would solve the issue BUT it has same issue .

If I have phone set so it has NO screen lock at all it can make calls. BUT If I have it set to have a screen lock then the Mav says Yes BUT first you MUST unlock the screen to make a call. I did a general google search and found some others with same problem BUT none have solved it. I have google assistant set to work with screen locked already . It was set that way from the start Yet still says I have to unlock screen . Says the same same if I ask it to read last text message.

I really wold like to have a screen lock on my phone but I cant figure out how and stull be able to make calls while driving in my mav , I cant unlock my phone screen while driving.

. ANY ideas?

On previous car a 2020 Ford Ecosport with sync 3 had no issue on my old phone the G stylus. . BUT since new car the Mav problem.

I generally plug my Samsung in and use Adroid Auto I also have a long delay for when my screen will lock. I had the same frustrating experience, it causes a more distracted driver. I have not been entirely happy with the infotainment center but learned to cope.

Check your Android Auto settings in your phone and allow startup with screen locked.

Well I messed around with it for a over an hour. At one point the button that said allow google assistant to operate with screen locked wouldn't let me check them. That was strange. I rebooted then it would checked them again even though that button was checked to start with then rebooted and bam it now works. So some how I fixed it myself. Still not sure how I did it.

If you activate WAZE, whether you are paying attention to it or not, it keeps the phone 'unlocked' on my iPhone. I have to do that when I don't use Car Play and just keep the phone in my pocket.
It is annoying when I forget to start WAZE and try to make a call. It just keeps saying "sync is downloading your contact list" forever...
