Are state taxes added before or after Private Offer?

Anyone with the cancelled my22 private offer ( hybrid $2750 ) know if your are taxed on the total price of your my23 or the price after the private offer adjustment is made? Here in California that can make a couple hundred dollar difference ? Appreciate any input thank you!

That differs depending on the state; some do and some don't. According to this article California applies sales tax to the total before rebates.

In Alabama, we pay taxes on the net before rebates. A trade will reduce the taxes since it lowers the total sales price. But as a rebate is by definition a post-sale refund (even if instant), you pay taxes before it is applied.

AZ taxed my last truck on the price before a "rebate", which is what the PO amounts to, according to many here.. I expect WY will this time. 5% tax here isn't as bad as AZ or CA, tho.
