Last year, I know there was ZERO possibility of adding a luxury package after your order was scheduled, since the luxury package (and lots of other things) were constrained and Ford did not have the parts to build those packages for all orders they had.

This year, since the LUX package actually has excess capacity, I am wondering if there is any chance that the package could be added. I'll tag @fordvideoguy just because I figure if anyone is likely to know this answer, it is Tim.

Thanks all for your input, and please, only comment if you actually have some insight into this.

Typically no changes after scheduling. There's been some anecdotal accounts if minor changes (see color for example) right after scheduled. But apparently it takes a lot of effort with dealer having to go to regional manager with Ford. I don't think there is much chance of getting a major change like this. If they do you will almost certainly lose your status of scheduled.

Maybe. Last year, I was one of the folks who changed color after being scheduled, and it literally took the dealer 30 seconds to do it in the computer system and it was done. He did get an issue stating that the change was being submitted "pending plant approval" but there was no issue. He was nervous doing it, and wanted me to understand that if he tried it might impact my schedule date. I told him to go ahead and do it, and it was not a problem at all.

Granted, adding a package is different. But unlike last year, when Ford had no parts for the packages, this year they actually have extra packages to sell. So, perhaps they could accommodate it.

I'm going to check with the dealer. Doesn't hurt to try. All that can happen is Ford says no.

Yep, that's really all you can do. It never hurts to ask.

On a side note I have to say that this has to be driving dealers crazy. haha I've read so many threads on the forum were people are changing their minds so they contact the dealer to make changes. IMO it seems like it would be really frustrating and honestly it sounds like a huge hassle for Ford to schedule vehicles but hey if they allow it then I say go for it.

I added Lux a few weeks ago to my hybrid XLT order. All it took was a few emails with the dealer and about 2 hours to complete.

Yes, this is typically the case. However, it becomes more complicated once your order has been scheduled for production and assigned a build week. The factory has to account for all the parts needed to produce the vehicle, so you are at their mercy as to whether they want to accommodate any further order modifications.

oops, misread the initial post. I have no idea if you can change it in production.

It's not just the parts. They schedule to maximize efficiency. Adding Lux puts a lot more complexity, wouldn't be surprised if it changes what they build it with. But probably won't hurt to try.

Right. Although in my case, my Tremor order already has most of the stuff. I have a hitch in the Tremor package, and the 400 watt inverter is already on my order. Basically, you're looking at heated seats/steering wheel and power driver's seat. Those are the big adds.

I got scheduled in the last batch for 2/27. Saw my order was missing 4K tow package. Emailed my dealer last night. Fist thing today he replied he has added an “amendment” to the order and now we just wait and see if they “accept it”. About an hour or two later I check my order status via the original email link from Ford and it showed up as a package on my build. Pleasantly surprised but still holding my breath.
So my advice is yes ask for it and then if you get it great if not nothing lost. Good Luck!

Good to hear! Congrats. That kind of confirms my suspicion that while it's certainly no guarantee, Ford will accommodate added packages where they can, which makes sense because I'm adding a $1,700 option and they would certainly like to sell it to me unless it's going to monkey up the whole works...

UPDATE: Dealer says they tried, but system won't allow them to preview the order with the luxury package added. So, I guess the answer is no.

You can have the dealer try to amend the order and see if the plant accepts the change.

@fordvideoguy they told me today they tried to go in and make changes, but after they added the package, the system would not let them preview the order. Is there a special process they have to follow, or perhaps attempt to make the changes in a different way? Because to me, it doesn't sound like they ever got to the point of submitting it and seeing whether the factory would accept the changes.

These folks are very honest, but I am not sure they know the ins and outs of modifying orders like you do. Any insight you can offer is appreciate. You can answer here or feel free to send me a PM. Thank you!

You just make changes just like you do for an unscheduled order, hit submit. It should change the status from draft to scheduled again, turn green, and an ! will appear in the left column. If they scroll over it, it should say "Scheduled order amendment submitted for processing". The next day they can check back and it will say "Schedule order amendment processing complete".
