I took delivery of my new Ford Maverick Lariat Lux 2022 after a wait of one year and one week.
I am very pleased with it so far.
It recently came to my attention that the passenger’s side rear parking aid sensor may be missing. The hole in the passenger’s side rear bumper is empty (you can put your finger through it), while the hole in the corresponding location on the driver’s side rear bumper appears to be occupied by a sensor (see attached photos), which I presume is a rear parking aid sensor. I am not getting any fault message on the instrument cluster. Occasionally, while the vehicle is in reverse a little orange spot appears in the area where the hole is for the passenger’s side rear parking air sensor, on the image of the Maverick that appears in the back up camera. I don’t get any message like “Check Rear Park Aid” on the instrument cluster, though.
Anyone else encounter this?
I presume that this is covered by the warranty?
Thanks.

I'm curious if it's just hanging out behind the bumper. I would assume that would be warranty covered, so if you can't find the sensor then definitely check with your dealer.

Yeah, I'm betting it popped off & is dangling behind the bumper. You should be able to see it if you poke your head under there.

If you don't want to mess with it, it's definitely warranty-able.

That’s a good point. To be honest I didn’t check to see if it may have gotten dislodged from the hole and is hanging behind the bumper. That might explain the lack of a “fault message” like “Check Rear Park Aid.” Thanks, I will look later today.

If it was just hanging back there pointed at the ground or the bumper, I'm surprised it doesn't go nuts every time you put it in reverse because it thinks you're about to back into an object.

But definitely not normal - take it back to dealership to fix under warranty

Edited: Yep, that's a Rear Parking Aid sensor. One on either corner of the rear bumper cover and two in the middle. Chances are the sensor is in there, but it has come loose and is dangling around behind the black plastic bumper cover. Likely just needs to be put back into place. Possibly missing altogether.

Regardless, the whole thing will likely need to come off to reinstall (if not replace) the sensor, so you'll want to bring it in under warranty (unless something has hit that corner to cause damage).

When you say “the whole thing will likely need to come off to reinstall/replace” do you mean that the whole bumper will likely need to come off to make the repair? So, it’s not a question of just popping the sensor back in to the hole, assuming it is in fact dangling behind the bumper?

The black plastic bumper cover; the sensor is mounted on the inside. So unless there's a way to reach around inside of it, yes, it has to come off. Was saying this probably isn't something you'd want to try yourself while it's under warranty.

Technically that's more of a cross-traffic alert/BLIS sensor (blind spot light on your side view mirrors). It's supposed to let you know if someone is currently in your blind spot, or if someone is approaching from that side when in reverse. The two sensors in the middle (part of the Lariat Luxury Package for 2022, extracted to the Co-Pilot360 Assist Package for 2023), those are the primary backup sensors for directly behind you.
Those sensors aren't used for cross-traffic/BLIS. The sensors for that system (CP360) are radar-based and behind the front section of the rear bumper.

The sensors here are ultrasonic and all 4 are used for the rear obstacle detection.

I stand corrected, this was a previous misinterpretation. It did sound funny at the time. :)

The 4 visible sensors are all the rear parking sensors. There are an additional 2 for blind spot/cross-traffic monitoring, which are not visible.

BLIS sensors are "behind the rear fascia panel", not exposed.

The sensors are behind the rear fascia panel.
Note: Keep the sensors free from snow, ice and large accumulations of dirt.
Note: Do not cover the sensors with bumper stickers, repair compound or other objects.
Note: Bike and cargo racks could cause false alerts due to obstruction of the sensor. We recommend switching the feature off when using a bike or cargo rack.
Note: Blocked sensors may affect system accuracy.
If something is blocking the sensors, a message may appear in the information display when you shift into reverse (R).

The bumper cover might not need to come off but the passenger side corner there has an aero shield on the underside that probably would.

I have a 2023 Lariat luxe and l thought l checked every option box, but l have no rear sensors? No holes at side of rear bumper and none in rear of bumper. I have full luxe package and 360, etc. I thought initially l shut something off, but in reverse, nothing. If someone walks behind me or drives behind me there is a perimeter beeping, but not when l am just backing up to a wall, etc. Anyone know of this was an option l missed and have a picture of these rear sensors? Are they deleted if you have the tow package? Did l shut something off? HELP!
