yah they have their issues! The first ones Ford made in '61 would stand up on the front bumper in a panic stop. So Ford recalled them and bolted 200lb cast iron weights in the back, sandwiched between the fuel tank and the bed.I had a '62 in high school. It was lacking in power, short a gear or two, and the steering was vague to the point of being funny. It was perfect.
Then there is the engine inside the doghouse, nowhere for heat to go except up into the cab. So the carb boiled off and the cab reeked of gasoline vapors for an hour or so. Of course, it would be really hard to start after that. And tend to overheat badly on a hot summer day.
But lots of mods that can be done, 4 wheel disc brakes, dual master, fuel system upgrades, ignition upgrades etc. if one doesn't insist on all original.
