Hey guys. Woke up yesterday morning early to start the Maverick up due to the cold temps so I could get to work. It hit about -10F here.

Turned the key, and lights in the cabin flickered for a brief moment and then shut off. I tried 3-4 more times and then the lights would not appear at all and there's no sound that the engine is even cranking. Figured it was just too cold. FordPass app doesn't show any issues but none o the commands work as well.

Today it's a bit warmer, around 7F right now. It still has the same issue so my assumption is the battery was completely drained. The key fob doesn't work to lock/unlock the Maverick as well so it's just sitting unlocked. I live in an apartment complex where we cannot have engine block heaters. I've never tried jumping a car this cold before, and have heard lots of horror stories online so I'm hesitant to do it. I've seen someone online mention using a hair dryer to heat the battery but I'd need to get about 100ft of extension cord to reach my car from an outdoor outlet.

Would it be okay to jump it in 7-10F weather? Should I contact roadside assistance from my insurance since I have that coverage?

Thanks!

EDIT: Ah, I saw this post here which sounds very similar to the issue I'm having... Sounds like a warranty repair is in order...

EDIT2: Couple of edits for anyone in the future looking at this thread. I was able to jump the car and it worked fine. I drove around for about an hour and then stopped at a Meijer for groceries. Came back out after about 30 minutes, and upon starting the truck up I got a "SHIFT SYS FAULT" warning message and telling me to reach out to a dealer.

The car was stuck with the "BRAKE" (parking brake) enabled. Attempting to turn on/off the parking brake gave prompts on the screen that it was being disabled/enabled but the "BRAKE" prompt on the dash stayed enabled. After about 10 minutes of shutting the truck off and turning it on, and giving the dash a few smacks, the truck started up and let me put it into drive. The check-engine light stayed on along with the red ! triangle above the check engine light, but I was able to drive it home. When I got home I shut it off and turned it back on. The lights stayed on but I was able to still put it in drive.

This morning it was a toasty 17F out so I wanted to see what happened if I turned it on. The truck turned on immediately and seemed to be fine. I checked the FordPass app and now it's all green with no warnings at all. I'm going to reach out to the dealer on Monday to at least schedule the replacement battery cable.

Do you have the engine block heater option installed ? Not sure if that would make a difference.

Nope. Sadly my HOA bans any plug-in devices from cars in the parking lot. We have no outlets so the cables would be running along the driving paths.

My bet is on battery cable.

How many more times does he have to say he has NO POWER where the truck is parked?
I know that. Maybe he can use a Noco or battery thingie to keep the Maverick battery topped off.

What's wrong with trying to jump it while it's cold? I've never heard of that being an issue.

I have a solar battery tender. Never used it on a car, but use it on my atv and tractor. It works great.

Off topic but I ordered my Maverick with the $90 block heater. People laughed because I live in Kentucky. Don't think anyone is laughing now.

Me either, just try and jump it.
Sounds like the plan. Should be about 15F later after the Bengals game so I'll get it jumped and go for a long drive, see what happens.

If only one of his neighbors had a jump box. OP I don't see any harm in jump starting your truck. I posted this pic a while back. This will help you find the correct posts.

You may want to have someone take you to walmart (or anywhere that sells them) and get a "jump Box"

Good Luck!
