Bought a XL and I think I'm feeling bad about it.

Nothing wrong with the basic XL, it’s an honest value.

But I was lucky because Ford bumped me up to the Unobtainium Edition. I paid money and get to drive something that feels exactly like my old car.

If you have an XL, be happy you at least have a Maverick.

It's a tool to do a job and does it just as much as a $60,000 tool. Never feel shame in that. I've driven a 2006 Saturn I paid $4,000 in cash for the last nine years, which my Maverick will be replacing. I promise I have gotten more miles per dollar than my neighbor with the Super Duty.

It's your canvas now...
Very well said. The voice of reason is always much more convincing. Thanks.

I bought an XL because of the steelies!

Love the steelies.
Embrace the steelies.
Become the steelies.
I love the retro look of the steelies. Just look at photos of the late '60s or early '70s muscle cars...lots of steelies back then and they were cool cars.

But the cool guys swapped those steelies for Torq Thrusts, Keystones, or slotted aluminum wheels!

Why I'm not sure, but I re-watched the original "Gone in 60 Seconds" movie just a couple of days ago. One of the first things I noticed is that Eleanor - the 1973 Mach 1 with the endless chase scene - had steelies with chrome rings and hubcaps.

I replaced the steelies on my XL, but I understand the appeal and strongly considered just adding chrome rings

I'm late commenting, but I ordered and after a year received a base XL Hybrid. IMHO it has the best looking interior, which is absolutely why I ordered it. I really, really dislike the looks of the XLT interior and find the Lariat only acceptable. No shade meant to be thrown on those that ordered those. I know personal preferences are just that.

As others have said, consider it a blank slate. You can easily add stuff that makes the truck look a lot nicer and fixes the few things missing. And the money saved on the base can pay for those things. I got the truck I wanted for about 3K less than Ford wanted by buying the XL.

After market wheels, black lettering on the tailgate. a bed liner and tonneau cover really spiffs up the exterior. Heated seats and cruise control can be added after the fact. The only accessory that is a lot more expensive added on than from the factory is - so far as I am aware - the trailer hitch.

As for paying over MSRP to get one right away - think of it this way. You are driving your Maverick - for more money - while others wait and pay less. It's like the VSP pass at Disney World. Speed costs money. What is it worth to you to wait (maybe a lot) less time?

Customize it to your desire and keep it a long time. Or drive it as is and order a 2024 that is what you want when the order bank opens.

Either way you still get the best looking interior --- IMHO

Unless you're buying McLaren super cars, there will always be something better out there, and even then you might yearn for a Koenigsegg. It's a simple as falling down to spend 80 grand on a truck if you want to, more than 100 if you go electric.

I chose this truck because used Frontiers with 100k miles are $15K. I might've gotten a extended cab Ranger if i could find one, but this will have more utility for me. The key is knowing yourself. Choose what you like, move forward in life. I know that even though I'm doing pretty well I can easily come up with a better use of 10 grand than putting it into making an economy truck nicer.

Been driving my XL hybrid since March 2022, haven’t had a need to add anything to it at this point. Still probably less than maverick’s in the area including a couple hybrids. I have only had positive comments about it everywhere I go and a few offers to buy it. No matter what trim level, it’s a base entry truck that fills a need that the old rangers filled at a lower cost than mid size trucks. Only thing I’m eventually going to add is cruise control and that’s only a $100 add on.

The color black was a good choice. It doesn't take much to make it tricked out. Wheels and tires are a good place to start, or if the budget is tight just wheels. Lower it a little and add some basic graphics and you will have a head turner. Like others have replied to you; there is beginning to be more aftermarket accessories available every day. The reduced fuel consumption versus the EB will buy you quite a few toys.
Better yet, spend your wife's money on it !

I’m starting to feel that way. Never had to wait this long to get a veh from ford.I’ve worked for ford in Dearborn Michigan for 49.5 years retired this year and the maverick is my gift to myself but I’m starting to wonder if I’ll get one. VP

My answer might be too stupid... but what I did was basically to get into Ford's website and instead of building a new vehicle - i searched for their inventory. Had to drive one hour to Pennsylvania but I found my XL over the Fred Beans Ford Dealer.

You might not be able to chose color and trim (Also you ll probably find 22's now.) but at least is a way to get it - if you dont want to wait til next year or God knows.

Hope that helps.

Congratulations on your well earned retirement!

The good news is if you don’t get one you can still reorder next year under A/Z plan and avoid most of the dealer shenanigans.
