MPG hit on the maverick for all-terrains seems to vary depending on the tire and the individual whose reporting.
Some examples include Falken WIldpeaks which report anywhere from 1-4 mpg loss, or BFG KO2 which report anywhere from 1-6 MPG loss.
I picked up a tire recently released without alot of info on it, the Nokian Outpost AT. There have been a few threads on its little brother the APT
My experience with the Outpost AT has been great. They're a standard load tire (lets not kid ourselves the maverick can do any off-roading worthy of a KO2) and weight 31 lbs. They're Aramid (Kevlar) reinforced, have a 100,000 KM warranty, have worked well on snow and ice all the down to -15C, and i plan to see if they will work in -40C, though i doubt they will work.
Best of all is i haven't seen any hit on my fuel economy. I actually get better than the EPA rating and have hit 32.3MPG driving like a granny and currently average 28MPG combined with 245/65R17 tires. This is likely due to the fact that theyre a low rolling resistance tire compared to other popular options.
in summation, they give you a rugged look, are suitably capable for what the maverick can do, work well on all types of surfaces, and doesn't touch your fuel economy.
Ill post some pics when i find some good lighting
Update:
Been running these down to -40C. They work, my city doesnt salt the roads and are very slick and icey. I have no issues starting, stopping or turning if i drive for the weather (i.e 10-15km below speed limit which everyone here does). only time i lost traction (and i barley lost traction,, i didnt leave my lane) was when i took a sharp corner on an icey road at 45km/hr which would be faster than i would in the summer.
