MPG hit on the maverick for all-terrains seems to vary depending on the tire and the individual whose reporting.

Some examples include Falken WIldpeaks which report anywhere from 1-4 mpg loss, or BFG KO2 which report anywhere from 1-6 MPG loss.

I picked up a tire recently released without alot of info on it, the Nokian Outpost AT. There have been a few threads on its little brother the APT

My experience with the Outpost AT has been great. They're a standard load tire (lets not kid ourselves the maverick can do any off-roading worthy of a KO2) and weight 31 lbs. They're Aramid (Kevlar) reinforced, have a 100,000 KM warranty, have worked well on snow and ice all the down to -15C, and i plan to see if they will work in -40C, though i doubt they will work.

Best of all is i haven't seen any hit on my fuel economy. I actually get better than the EPA rating and have hit 32.3MPG driving like a granny and currently average 28MPG combined with 245/65R17 tires. This is likely due to the fact that theyre a low rolling resistance tire compared to other popular options.

in summation, they give you a rugged look, are suitably capable for what the maverick can do, work well on all types of surfaces, and doesn't touch your fuel economy.

Ill post some pics when i find some good lighting

Update:

Been running these down to -40C. They work, my city doesnt salt the roads and are very slick and icey. I have no issues starting, stopping or turning if i drive for the weather (i.e 10-15km below speed limit which everyone here does). only time i lost traction (and i barley lost traction,, i didnt leave my lane) was when i took a sharp corner on an icey road at 45km/hr which would be faster than i would in the summer.

They look about as good as any all terrain. I personally dont get where KO2s credit comes from. I have had them slip and slide in the lightest of mud. Im personally thinking about getting Maxxis Bighorn 245/70r17s after the Falkens on my Tremor wear out. Those Nokians look good enough for street and snow and dirt type stuff.

I have been happy with Nokian tires on past vehicles.
I can not speak for this particular tire, but am currently running the Nokian One on my CR-V and am very pleased with them. Used the Nokian Hakkapalita snows through Vermont winters in the past, fantastic snow and ice performance.

yeah agreed they arn't going to win any mudding competitions and arn't going to be as puncture resistant as a 10 ply tire. but a maverick wont work in extreme conditions either, they perform very well for what the maverick is capable of and don't give up any fuel economy. I have seen them used on mud in tire reviews and they will get you through, just overall a good 'all arounder' for every surface.

no noticeable increase in road noise.

I think they will do fine for the mass of what Maverick buyers attempt. But it will say that any vehicle (vw bug, camry, K-car, camaro)with proper mud tires will go through things(not up and over because of clearance) that any 4x4 on all season or basic ATs can get potentially stuck in. I have been embarassed in a Jeep CJ on ATs in flooded woody trails by a VW on boggers.

98% of folks would do great with the Nokians, but a Maverick will do some really wild stuff with mudders too.

I ended up with the Nokian Outpost APT's that @Kwanzaa mentions. I don't expect to put my Maverick through any challenging trails but do want the 3-peak snowflake rating for the limited winter I see. Nokian is known for their snow tires and I expect both the Outpast AT and APT to perform admirably in that environment. The APT weight is the same as the Pirelli Scorpions and I noticed the improved traction - "stickiness" - with the APT right away. Also, I couldn't pass up the great price of the APT at the time I bought it.

Anyone wanna buy some Pirelli's real cheap! 😏

At a glance these are on the lesser end of "A/T" for sure. I am sure they will suit most drivers. But those worried about muddier, messier conditions might want something a bit more aggressive.

I'm still wanting someone to try the Firestone Destination AT2 before I get my Maverick. 235/65r17 at 28lbs, according to Tire Rack.

There are wheels available that drop 10 lbs of weight from the stock steelies, would be interested to see how that combo would work with all terrain tires as it pertains to mileage.

Agreed, for those with AWD a more aggressive A/T tire could be more appropriate. Mine is a hybrid, I have other AWD/4x4 vehicles, I’m looking for a better all around tire than the OEM Continentals for my Hybrid while sticking close to the OEM 25lb weight.

I heard those have great winter performance, sounds like a good choice.
