DIY Grabby Brakes Fix

I swear this works for me.
For at least 15 out of 15 days.

When able, when safe, as soon as possible on your first drive of the day, get up to 25 or 30 mph, look behind you, then BRAKE FIRMLY. No need to screech the tires or evoke ABS. Brake briskly enough to exceed regen, and get about 50% hydraulic braking power. Continue strong braking until you stop. That's it. As an alternative, shift to N and do your first stop of the day in N.

I will not feel "grabby" brakes no matter how many times I try after doing this.

I live in a coastal area (SF Bay) with fog and dew most mornings. I feel heating the brakes, drying the brakes, shedding surface rust, whatever helps in my scenario. Can't be a fluke if it worked 15 times in a row, right?

I can't prove dampness is a root cause. MAYBE the dumb truck needs to "learn" something from that first application of hydraulic brakes. Stupid if that's it because it "forgets" overnight.

Do it safely. Pay attention to who if anyone is behind you.

Try it and report back if this helps your Maverick.

I agree Ford needs a permanent remedy.
Sounds like they are working on it. Please TRY this and see if it helps you, before the Ford update comes out.

15 out of 15 for me.
Not proof of anything.
But I'm batting 1000.

Took truck to Ford they had it for 3 day
Test it out can't fine any problem with the computer or brakes. Brakes are normal can't duplicate the problem there nothing wrong. Driving out of Ford lot the brakes grabbed but they can't fine any problem.

Also they fix some of the recalls. But can't do the air bags they have no parts.

Why drill holes in truck to fix truck going on 🔥 fire won't make more cents to fix oil leaks and hose that are leaking. So you didn't fix the problem of leaking 🤔

..
There is no leaking!! Please use the search function to understand why holes in the under engine guard are drilled.

What was told to me at Ford they need to drill holes in truck and take out fins to prevent the truck going on fire when oil and antifreeze pools under engine and it hot outside and you truck is hot it can start a fire don't park inside of a garage .
That what explains by Ford. So what did I get wrong. Where is oil and antifreeze coming from. If it's not leaking on a new truck

Not when, if, and only if, with no known defect that will cause one but rather the fact that inevitably, some things break, no matter how safe and reliable overall... Damage of some form would likely be required to lead to said fires. There's no indication that it's just a matter of time for a hybrid to catch fire. There is no reason for concern of fire any more than any other vehicle.

Thanks. I've been using this technique and so far good results as reported by your post. Most helpful!

Thanks for sharing your experience, it sounds like a lot of Hybrid owners are feeling the grab so hopefully Ford does have a proper solution in the works - let us know if your streak continues or ends!
Yes I felt a little grabbing here and there, just figuring that it will reside as time goes buy during break-in period.

When I first got the Maverick, I noted the "grabby" brakes during the last couple of feet of a stop. I've gotten a little better at modulating the brake pedal pressure, easing off the pressure as we come to a stop, and that helps a lot, but it would still sometimes just "clunk" to stop a foot short of where I thought it was going to stop...

Adding GPSMav's "once per drive" technique above to my routine, I've not had the issue in the last 10-12 trips.

Thanks for the tip, GPSMan!

It's the latter half of December.
Software fixes should be rolling out soon.

I'm keeping expectations in check.
I'm expecting an improvement.
I'm not expecting the problem to go away entirely. Would be nice if it did but it's a pretty tough problem to eliminate. Lots of variables including wet, damp, dew, cold, rust, in addition to infinite road conditions and driver inputs.

Here's to hoping for the best in the next few weeks.

My guess, my theory is Ford will force friction brakes to come on at higher speed than 3 mph. Let's see if that is part of the solution. There's probably more than one aspect but I think this will be one aspect.

Using the Brake Coach helped me to monitor my braking pressure, but once in a while I get that grabby feeling. Mostly first application.

Fix just came out on the 15th. Going on Tuesday for it.

Then I'm going to sell my mav for a huge profit. Gotta love the free market @GPSMan

I was at my dealer yesterday and asked the service manager if he had heard anything from Ford about a software and or parts required to fix the problem and the answer was no more nothing 😒 from Ford 😵💫
