My shadow black awd xl is almost here JUST as we are entering a minnesota winter. Those who have had a black vehicle ceramic coated is it nearly a no brainer? I was also told I could save some $$ by telling dealer to NOT wash the truck prior to delivery as then it would only need a claybar for prep prior to ceramic vs hundreds more for more detailed prep. Thoughts?

That is a no brainer for any color. Ceramic coating is a great improvement in technology over even the best waxes out there. There are some good videos out there that compare the different ceramic coating products, basically higher price is better (not always) but since we are Maverick owners a middle of the road price point is where we should land.

a good wash is important before clay bar. I plan on an iron remover as well.

I would not think you would have a lot of Iron on a new vehicle except around the wheels where brake dust might be.

Dave,
Did you get your truck yet? I just now saw this post. Any reputable detail shop will have to wash, clay bar, and polish your truck before the ceramic coating is applied. Think of it like this... Ceramic coating is just silica (glass particles), solvent, and glue. It will not fill in imperfections and if it's a good product, it will be very, very hard to correct once it is cured to the clear coat. I can talk for hours about detailing. If you want, send me a direct message and I can give you more information on the subject. It might be worth calling up some reputable detail shops in the area that specialize in this subject to learn about their process. Ceramic coating can scratch easier than you think. Always take care in how you wash and maintain your car to keep it as glossy as possible. I hope this helps.

If we are not that picky should we avoid ceramic then? I'm only just learning about it and in drought stricken Cali I only wash about 6 times a year. 🤷🏻‍♂️

"Rail dust is exactly that, when cars are transported by train (rail) from the factory to a city, the metal wheels of the train cars running on metal rails create small particles of metal that fly into the air and land on the horizontal surfaces of the car."
this is a wise man^

Griots iron fall out remover with their foam cannon followed by there foaming soap followed by what we protection you want next.

other than that I’m a big supporter of ammoNYC enamel coats. Been using his products personally and professionally for years.

I had very little iron when I did iron remover on mine but there was a bunch of bonded non-iron contaminants that I removed with clay.

As close as you are to the factory I wouldn't be surprised at a low iron accumulation. It is worrying there was a "bunch" of other crap though.

It did sit at the factory for 53ish days and who knows what was in the air. Still, I was a bit surprised by the disparity between the iron and non-iron contaminants.

Want to do mine but wondering who? Does the dealer just send it out and tack on a fee?
