AWD was very rare in the U.S. automotive industry until the last two decades or so, amazing how many of us survived on icy roads without it. Countless objective tests have shown how proper tires are significantly more important than how many drive wheels you have in icy/snowy conditions; those extra drive wheels are not helping you stop or turn, but automotive marketing is pretty amazing. You need AWD as much as they need a hybrid.
Going to work at 3am in upstate NY is a NEED, gas savings is not.

No, it isn't. You clearly have some beliefs in the benefits of AWD in ice/snow that are not supported by evidence. You and the poster you were responding to both have skewed definitions of the word "need".

My Maverick was one of the first two or three on this forum to have the 12v battery drain issue. It also had an insane amount of interior rattles, bad paint issues (rock chips after only 250 miles without even seeing/hearing any rocks hit my car), the touchy brakes, the whole shebang. The car spent over 70 days at the dealership in the short few months I owned it. I had multiple lemon law attorneys practically begging me for the case but ultimately sold mine to Carvana at the height of the car market as that was the most profitable thing to do. I figured anyone willing to spend twice the price on a Maverick from Carvana must have done their research on it and knows the risks of buying a Maverick. Plus Carvana probably got stuck with it or ended up losing money on it anyway.

In northeast Iowa, the ditches are littered with four wheel drive pickups in the winter. I have had 2 SAABs, a Chevy Citarion, a Sentra, a Vibe, a Camry, a Civic and a RAV4 The RAV is the only AWD in the bunch. Never put a single one in the ditch.

Toyota been using lithium batteries for years. They been swapping the old style on top models first. So now base Hybrids have them now.

Why would I want a car? The appeal to the Maverick is that it’s a hybrid truck. If I can’t get my 2023 order, I’ll keep my 2019 Forester.
