If you are patient, it should be great as used inventory piles up, prices drop and there may be lots of "flipped" mavericks that you can purchase at a decent price that are certified pre owned.

Before COVID, a brand new vehicle was never in my cards. I would rather someone else take the depreciation hit. Now it looks like dealers may be doing that for us in the next 6-12 months :ROFLMAO:
I am pretty patient. My current car is a base model 2009 honda fit manual, 200K+ miles ($14k). I started looking for a replacement about 2 years ago. I like doing a lot of research since I plan on buying new and keeping it for a long time. I saw the Maverick news in 2021 and held out ordering until the consumer reports came out with a review (late spring). Which took forever. So I watched all the ordering drama for a year+. I found a close-ish dealer that guarantees MSRP and got on their list in May 2022 and ordered the second day for a 23 XLT hybrid (hitch and spare). Now I get a new kind of waiting. If you want to get a new car as cheaply as possible patience is the only way. ;-)

This video I watched shows a lot of private party sellers of 2022s with some crazy asking prices. It shows a lot of price drops on the listings.

My Dad is on his 4th I think, between miles ( 100 mile daily commute for 20+ years) and deer he went through quite a few. Reliable cars but I strongly dislike the look. Probably got over 200k on at least 2 of them. His latest one he got a wicked deal on and it was under 20k, but has the options including lane centering in it and I was impressed. He normally bought the most base model, dunno why this one was a higher trim. They feel like driving a go cart :ROFLMAO:

This is my first honda fit. I've loved it. But I agree it is like driving a go cart. But a huge upgrade from the previous car which was a chevy metro, manual, 3-cylinder, no AC. Talk about driving a go-cart. Photo is included as proof of my crap car history. But it was $7000 brand new in 1998 and got 40 mpg and lasted 10 years with very few repairs. So after that, the fit was like driving luxury. But at my current age, I am ready for a better ride and no manual. 30 years of manual cars and I am ready to just press the petal and have the car go.

I bought my '22 XL off a dealer's lot, had to pay above MSRP, then I ordered a '23 because the '22 doesn't have cruise control. I've read about the modification that can be done to add cruise control to a '22, but I can't do it, and dealerships refuse to do it, so I'll probably bite the bullet and trade in for the '23. I'd like to sell the '22 for MSRP first, but I'll need it until the '23 is ready and it might have a lot of miles on it by that time.

Maybe post in the Cali regional forum to see if someone will help. It is really easy, and if that is the only reason you want a '23, then I highly recommend just trying to find someone to assist you. I did it on my XL that I traded in, would be happy to help you if you were closer.
