Looks great! Now that you have experience with this project, do you think you could have removed the center piece by popping the clips only without unbolting the shroud?
No, the bar has 7-9 screws holding it in place across the back interior of the shroud, you have to pull that off and pull those screws before you can unclip the bar. On XLT at least

I stand (sit?) corrected. Crazy that Ford would spend the $$ to tool three different versions. Thought they were pinching every penny!

I would imagine someone else has already done this but I found this video......Looks good! Another idea in the brain bank for whenever I get mine....

I personally like the look without the grill bar. :)

I'm thinking of removing my Lariat grille bar and plasti-dipping it black. I don't want to spend the bucks for a body color paint job, but I think I'd prefer black to silver.
I did that on mine recently. Wasn't too terrible masking it on the truck by popping the grille forwards off of the headlight clips. DYC Piano Black Hyperdip for the grille, Vvivid Hex Light Smoke on the turn signals, and Rustoleum trans tint spray to stealth the grille lights.

Been driving mine without it on for the last 1k miles, actually prefer the look, if unfinished, but had meant to body match it lmao
