I have noticed there is a Wi-Fi option which I connected to my home network while in my driveway. Is there any advantage with this or would it be better to turn off the Wi-Fi toggle so it’s not constantly connected to my home network while in my driveway. New to this stuff so sorry if this post is redundant.

Depends on if you want to give Ford Corp. free internet to download all your diagnostic vehicle information. They do it anyways but at least it cost them a cellular plan to do so.

In all seriousness, this may make downloads and OTA updates a little faster and more stable, depending on your coverage area.

Appreciate it. Yeah if there is not too much of a benefit the I’ll keep it off. I use the ford pass to start my truck in the morning but since that uses their built in cellular signal then I don’t see any reason to keep Wi-Fi on and actively support their prying eyes lol. Reason why I went away from anything google was the amount of data they collect and pass on about each individual. Looks like cars are doing it now.

My Wi-Fi barely reaches to the truck in the drive. Truck see it and setup but fails to connect 90% of the time.

Don’t worry about who’s WiFi they use you are shareing all you data any way because the Ford software is a tattletale that shares all your driving habit good and bad unless you turn it off.

You can only decline small parts of Ford telemetry data but it’s a cost of using their service. Nothing to get too paranoid about, being as how you literally have the most efficient spy device, known to man, in your hand or pocket.

when i first took delivery of my truck it had some issues with the radio. a couple of months later, at the first oil change (in my home shop) i was able to connect my truck to my home wifi and download an update from ford that cured all my prior radio problems. i figure every oil change i will just do the same thing.

I have found that when I connect to my home WiFi and drive away the truck does not automatically reconnect when I return. The Mav does not appear to have an "automatically connect to my known approved WiFi" setting like a smart device.

Can’t turn it off…. Built into truck.
If the description in the menu you can turn off the location service and not select the share data with Ford. Now I do not know if you ever select it it isn’t storing the data To be sent later. The part that bothered me was Ford admitted the data could be shared with insurance companies Etc.

I keep my location services off at all times. Most of all I put nothing on my phone I consider sensitive info. If I need to talk about something sensitive I talk face to face. Trust me Emails and messages never go away. The chips in your employment badges are also tracking devices. When in the office your boss knows where you are.

Happens all the time. Have an accident and insurance co can try to subpoena your trucks data given legal cause. Doesn't mean Ford or GM or whomever offers up data as a matter of course, bad for business.
First time I heard of this was over 10yrs back when the amount of destruction didn't match a drivers account. His Corvette ratted him out to 110mph at time of impact.

While I agree with most of your post about keeping secrets secret, saying your boss is tracking you at work via your badge is going a bit far if you understand RFID technology (assuming you mean RFID chips in your badge). If you mean swiping in and out and all around throughout your workday via a magnetic strip or something, then sure, the boss is tracking you.

But if we are talking about "wireless"/unseen tracking, the "chip"/tiny inductive loop in your badge is so weak that it needs to be within 3 feet of a reader to be energized and read. Often wayyyyyyyyyy closer to the reader than that (think centimeters). The three feet thing is more of a max limit to what is currently available for passive reading. All this assuming it is a passive "chip"/antenna and not a powered one of course. I suppose some workers might be walking around with a couple ounce heavy battery powered name-tag that is broadcasting a signal at all times and being grabbed by a reader that is possibly dozens or hundreds of feet from them. But even then the accuracy of the badge location would only be as good as knowing the user is within the circle that is the range of the reader. Maybe a bit of guessing based on signal strength. Until you get into triangulation among multiple readers like you see when they triangulate a cell phone that is pinging multiple cell towers.
