Please Lord tell me you're joking! Ordering a King Ranch trim Maverick should put you on a blacklist for buying any truck... Ever
I am joking. It was pure satire, rolled in with a little sarcasm. I saw a "King Ranch" Ford Expedition one day, and just shook my head. They are diluting the exclusiveness of a king ranch pickup with that dumb shit. This is why I mentioned that.

I figured. But I remember someone mentioning it not that long ago. If you can't pull a horse trailer you can't call it a King Ranch.

4,000 lbs, you sure can pull a horse trailer. A 1 or 2 stall one. Yes they do make 1 stall hores trailers. Goofy looking things, but they do make them. Now, you cant pull a big gooseneck horse trailer with one. So if this is the case, it does qualify. Those 2 stall ones are pretty light. Add in the weight of 2 horses, and your pretty close.

That's why I mentioned Tony Lamas, and James Leddys. These are expensive, but not like that kind of money. James Leddy will even take foot impressions, and they are taylormade to fit. I just go with a typical farm and ranch Justin Roper "work" boot. A bit of mink oil and I'm in business. Want to hear a funny song, check out a song by Texas songwriter Deryl Dodd. It's called "New Tony Lamas". It is on youtube for those who wanna check it out. I been honky tonkin years ago at the Ft Worth stockyards, and seen him and his band play there. This song just fits with the whole country scene vibe from the late 90s, mid to late 2000s. As far as the King Ranch Jr. edition was just poking fun at some of the absurdity of the higher end pricing on trucks.
I just discovered Texas/Oklahoma Red Dirt music a few years ago. I listen to a site called realtexasradio.com. Lots of favorites—Curtis Grimes, Kevin Fowler, Holly Tucker, Josh Abbott, Granger Smith, Ariel Hutchins, Creed Fisher

NGL... I've been considering buying a full sized dino costume. A one horse trailer would probably be perfect for it lol. I didn't order a 4k tow though, so that's out.

That's on the Active trim which isn't the Base, though. So add an extra $1345.
You're right. I missed that..

My point still stands though.
The cost to upgrade the screen is negligible.

What are the benefits of a larger screen that people feel like they are missing?

The current one seems big enough for navigation maps, backup camera, audio, CarPlay apps, etc. The cubby provides a nice place to install a mount for my phone. I don’t want digital controls for things like HVAC, since conventional buttons are actually more convenient.

What what am I missing?
On a larger screen you can get more information from Android Auto and CarPlay.

Ford actually did their own development with late-model Sync4 units that have large screens; they have a display panel on the right that you can select different things such as current track/station, 4WD status, fuel economy, and so on. Android Auto beta is now doing that too.

The other use for a larger screen only comes into play if the vehicle has 360 degree cameras. If you have those, then yes, you want a large screen to try to display that info. When you enable 360 my (wife's :D) Bronco shows front bumper or rear camera on the left (depending on if you're going forward or reverse, of course) and sides on the other half of the 12" screen. It would not be totally useless with only a 8" screen but it does become hard to see enough to be useful.

Regarding replacing the infotainment completely, that is not going to happen easily if at all.The issue in replacing the unit entirely is that a lot of things want to use the audio system and it will break if you don't have complete integration. Things such as:
  1. Backup sensor beep
  2. Cross-traffic sensor beep
  3. Blindspot detection beep
  4. Fake engine noise (terrible but more and more common....)
  5. Factory navigation (becoming less common but not 100% gone yet despite many using Android or Apple navigation)
  6. Seatbelt reminder chime
  7. Door ajar chime
  8. Anything that pops up on the driver panel - low tire pressure, battery charge warning, etc

Ford uses the A2B bus and there are a few (very) high priced devices that can natively connect to it, typically a DSP or amplifier with integrated DSP. So yeah, I don't expect to see any junk on Alibaba that will replace the Ford Audio or Sync3 unit in a Maverick.

Also, hell no I would not pay $1000-1500 just for a larger screen and I am a lariat lux owner. $250 line-item, yes. $1500 in a package, maybe. Let's talk about forward parking sensors!

Both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay can expand to fit the wider screen. They don't have fixed aspect ratios.

Personally, having a "wider" screen for navigation is useless... I want a "taller" screen so that it's showing me what's a mile ahead of me, rather than what's a mile to either side... When I use my phone to navigate, it's always in "portrait" orientation. And coming from my Prius-C, which claims to have a back-lit navigation screen, but cannot be read in either sunlight or at night, I think the relatively bright and readable screen in the Maverick is pretty awesome!

The side of screen cubby is of perfect size to hold a tablet of paper and a pen to write down all the things Ford did "wrong". 🤣

Just got this email from Ford regarding the new Escape. One picture shows the wider aspect ratio screen we assume is coming to the Maverick years from now.

I know it wasn't the intention, but since I can't get a Maverick, perhaps I can order a refreshed Escape. Hmmm...

Don't worry someone on here (or me) will buy it and put it in the Maverick, I have no doubt.
