Replacing a key is roughly 2% the cost of the entire Maverick.

Also don't forget, paying the locksmith to come out to a remote location to cut you a new key and chip it.....happened to a buddy of mine while we were out riding in the El Centro deserts. Just under a grand after almost 8 hours.

Yeah. When traveling. I've always kept an extra key in my toiletry bag or pack just in case to avoid that kind of fustercluck.

And a less extreme example. We had a birthday party at a local park for my six year old in September. Both mom and I needed to drive to fit all of the stuff. After the party, my wife lost her keys among all of the chaos/stuff. Four people spent a half hour looking for them in bags/boxes of stuff, around the park, in the garbage etc. I ended up taking her home to get a second set of keys and back again to get her car. We ended up finding her keys among the stuff when we unpacked, but after an hour+ of wasted time and stress. My keys were safely tucked in my truck the whole time.

All you married men who claim they never have and never will leave your keys in the car, you have. When my wife and I go to a large social gathering she puts her purse, with her keys in it, under the seat.

maybe yours does. my lady knows better than to leave anything of value in the car. smash and grab robberies are wayyyyy up and you are asking for an even bigger headache leaving your purse vs just the keys. not only do they have keys to your car, now they also have everything they need to steal/sell your id. so not only are you trying to replace a truck that isnt for sale anywhere you are canceling every account your own setting them up with all new payment information, changing all the locks on your house, and praying to god they couldnt open a lines of credit in your name before everything was stopped. dont ask for trouble and there wont be any.

roll the dice, take your chances. Some could leave their key/fob locked in the car the life of the vehicle with no issues, others could have it stolen with the key/fob in their hand in the first week of ownership. Seems a pretty low risk to me though, wouldn’t the thief need a plan to steal the car without a key/fob? How would they know the key is in the car? I also can’t help but think is this conversation giving thieves ideas?

Theives in NJ have some kind of device that can detect the presence of the key. They target high end cars in wealthy areas. If it's in a Faraday pouch that should work. Just something I won't do.

Yea. The whole point of the Faraday is it defeats those devices. If you’re walking around with key not in Faraday that’s 1000 times riskier than locking key in truck in Faraday.

Reminds me of my grandfathers old GMC he drove around in. It was a truck by all means, not a “luxury” truck like we have today. Anyway, he sawed off a key and left it in the ignition, doors always left unlocked (he lived in rural WA). Never had to worry about stuff like that back in the day.

If you don't want the Maverick to "see" the key put it in the bottom of the storage cubby under the lift out with a rag over it.

That's the exact spot your "supposed" to put It in if the Key fob battery dies. The truck can still recognize it and allow you to start it. Probably wouldn't use that spot though. It may need to be exactly in the indention.

Actually I mis-stated the location. I was thinking of the optional storage box in the back of the bed of the pickup. I keep a spare remote there and I have a pad on the door to unlock the Maverick

Replacing a key is roughly 2% the cost of the entire Maverick. Insurance would cover replacement of the Maverick. "Crackheads" are relatively rare and most are disinterested in my Maverick (much less stealing it).

Insurance might cover the cost of replacing the Maverick, but not the year-long wait for the Maverickorder window to re-open, then another 8-12 months waiting for it to be built... They couldn't pay me enough to go through that twice!

Come on now.... Don't all of us who gotten our Mavericks kind of miss the anticipation, the dashing of our misplaced hopes, the "misery loves company" comradery, and wondering what the dealer was going to do to us when we picked up our Mavericks???

Doesn't it ALMOST make you wish you had ordered a MY23, especially a hybrid??

But..... I did order a '23 Hybrid... Just (sort of) thankful I still have my crappy '12 Prius C to drive while I wait to see if I win the Maverick lottery...

I think if you leave the fob in the truck, it keeps sending messages back and forth with Ford. My hybrid, keeps clicking when the fob is near the truck in the garage. Then Ford sends me a message on my phone telling me it's going to put the truck into sleep mode or something like that to save the battery. I would not leave the fob in the truck long term, or keep it near the door to the garage close enough to be in contact with the truck.

I was just about to mention this. Seems my hybrid won't shut up if the key inside. It's incredibly annoying. I bought the XL model because I wanted to be a bottom of the barrel truck. Looks like I should have bought just the X model.

The insurance companies need to stop paying for stolen cars when keys are left in the car. I'm tired of paying more insurance because of stupid people. You also pay a lot higher insurance rates for years with that big of a claim and may not get a renewal.

Two insurance companies have stopped insuring Kia and Hyundai vehicles in some states because of the high theft rate for the poor security design they had.
