the small risk of a smash break in and steal is worth it over the annoyance of keys in pocket for a run, bike, kayak, etc.

the keypad is the only reason i buy fords.
I've had several Fords with the keypad going back to my 1991 Thunderbird and I have to agree it's a very hand feature. I do have to admit that most of the Ford's that I owned were before push button start so leaving the key hidden in the car wasn't as much of a risk I guess. But I still don't think it's much of a risk now as long you're not leaving it in plain sight where someone might see it.
It really is a very handy feature especially for those that like to do outdoor activities and exercising.

i dont see why its such an issue to just carry your keys with you. why make it any easier for some crackhead to take off with your truck?

Replacing a key is roughly 2% the cost of the entire Maverick. Insurance would cover replacement of the Maverick. "Crackheads" are relatively rare and most are disinterested in my Maverick (much less stealing it).

In fairness to crackheads they usually aren't looking to jack trucks, they are only looking for loose change or anything like a cell phone they can pawn or sell for a quick buck.

Alright, which one of yous is gonna lock your Mav with the windows up and have AAA slim jim your Mav to see if the fob you left inside works? For science, of course...
Hide your keys in your truck, then lock a 5yr old in it. If the keys can be found and the truck started the 5yr old will do it,

Love the keypad feature. Any issue I’m missing by simply leaving the key in a Farady pouch in the truck permanently and just using keypad for entry
I think if you leave the fob in the truck, it keeps sending messages back and forth with Ford. My hybrid, keeps clicking when the fob is near the truck in the garage. Then Ford sends me a message on my phone telling me it's going to put the truck into sleep mode or something like that to save the battery. I would not leave the fob in the truck long term, or keep it near the door to the garage close enough to be in contact with the truck.

If I had a FOB, would not keep it in the truck. But - Anyone that has lost a key in a remote location, over a weekend, would certainly reconsider keeping a key hidden inside. Ran across a family in Alaska with only one "lost" key. No one/dealer available locally to tap into the ignition to get vehicle started or make a new electronic key. Had been stranded for a week waiting for their replacement key to be FedExed to them. I made sure my Mav included a keypad and Wi-fi for entry for this very reason, so I could keep my spare inside the vehicle.

I don't have a FOB but when I walk by the Maverick (every time) the Maverick starts clicking.

This is incorrect. As long as you have the right coverage your insurance provider will cover the cost of theft even if the the key is left inside the vehicle.
Not sure how they would find out if the key was in the car anyway

From a friend of mine who is a Memphis cop:
1. Lock your car. Lots of theft is still from people who left their cars open.
2. Don't leave any unsecured items in sight: people will break in just to see what's in that random bag. Used to be it was don't leave valuables out, now its anything. Don't leave anything out.
3. Don't leave unsecured guns in the center console or glove box. People break into cars just to see what's in your center console and often find cash and guns. Lock it up once or twice if you can't take it with you (I get it, some places don't allow you to carry, fine, whatever) and if it were me, I'd disable it as well. Perhaps that's why I just don't bother (that's a me thing though, I don't need a firearm at the ready).

So if you leave your keys in the car, put them someplace out of sight and not in a purpose built storage area of the truck-someone who casually breaks in to steal the $20 back-up gas cash out of your center console could find them and just take the truck as a bonus. Maybe there is a cavity under the dash that is easily reached?

I will leave my keys in the truck on occasion when I visit wilderness areas. I haven't decided where I'll place them yet, but those places are so remote my fear for casual theft is pretty low...

Now I'm thinking of possible hiding spots for a key. Don't have a Mav yet, so I can't look around inside to find one. In the Ecos perhaps you can hang the key on the seat adjustment lever, or mount a travel soapdish under the dash somewhere and put your key in that. In the Hybrids, maybe the gas door. Those with power locking tailgates could put the key in one of the side boxes. Any ideas anyone? If you don't wanna reveal your own hiding spot I understand

Well I guess I'll be sure it doesn't get stolen for awhile.
