Hold up! Let’s get the facts straight! This is all true… no deliveries until at least engineering comes up with a solution which is not earlier than January of next year. Oh Mavericks are on hold and cannot be delivered to customers for builds from February 3, 2021 through July 9, 2022. This is going to suck for everyone involved in this and there are many thousands. Here is an internal memo sent directly to Ford management:

David J. Johnson
Director
Service Engineering Operations Ford Customer Service Division

TO: All U.S. Ford and Lincoln Dealers

Ford Motor Company
P. O. Box 1904
Dearborn, Michigan 48121

September 22, 2022

SUBJECT: NEW VEHICLE DEMONSTRATION / DELIVERY HOLD - Advance Notice Compliance Recall 22C20

Certain 2022 Model Year Maverick Side Airbag Curtain Replacement

AFFECTED VEHICLES
Vehicle Model Year Assembly Plant

Maverick 2022 Hermosillo Plant

Build Dates

February 3, 2021, through July 9, 2022

Affected vehicles are identified in OASIS and FSA VIN Lists.

REASON FOR THIS COMPLIANCE RECALL

All the affected vehicles may not conform to the requirements specified by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 226 Ejection Mitigation for front row passengers, a vehicle that does not comply with FMVSS 226 increases the risk of injury in a crash.

SERVICE ACTION

DO NOT DEMONSTRATE OR DELIVER any new in-stock vehicles involved in this compliance recall. A complete Dealer Bulletin will be provided to dealers early 1st quarter of 2023 when it is anticipated that parts ordering information and repair instructions will be available to support this compliance recall.

IMPORTANT: Dealers should open a Repair Order (RO) only when a full dealer bulletin is published. Opening an RO against an Awareness or Advance Notice will result in warranty rejections against a recall.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owners of record will be notified the week of September 22, 2022, via first-class mail to inform them parts are expected to be available by early 1st quarter of 2023. A full bulletin with repair instructions and parts ordering information will be provided to dealers once service parts are in stock

When my truck arrived at LM I called a service advisor and he confirmed that my 8-26 build day was not affected by any of the previous issues to include the side air bag.

Honestly, most of the blame here is the airbag vendor. Ford ordered to a spec, and since earlier builds don't have this issue the initial production runs were in spec. The vendor deviated from spec (vendor's fault) and Ford didn't catch it (I bet they will be wasting 1 or 2 from each production run from now on).

How are builds from before 7/9 not already delivered to customers?

Ford ordered to a spec, and since earlier builds don't have this issue the initial production runs were in spec.
All early builds, even the preproduction ones, are considered to have the affected airbags. 'February 3, 2021' when primary production didn't start until August.

This is all true… no deliveries until at least engineering comes up with a solution which is not earlier than January of next year.
They already have a solution. Airbags that meet spec are being installed in current production units. They just won't have extra inventory to begin addressing already delivered units until Q1.

You would think that Ford would supply replacement air bags to Mavs being held up on dealer’s lot’s “built but not delivered” ahead of supplying their factory line. No?

It is really not a good situation. I literally Took delivery of mine two days before the lockdown started and I’m sure there’s many others who now will not get their maverick for many more months down the road xit’s just going to sit at a dealer lot or storage place near the factory. Crazy…

the side bag recall, anything new here?
Thousands of Mavs built as late as July that are still held on dealer’s lots awaiting airbags that are available, but being used for new builds? May not be news to some, but it sure is news to me.
Can Ford dealers sell used Mavs they get in their inventory that have the unresolved airbag recall?

So… I’ve been waiting for months on a spec XLT to arrive here in Canada. Dealer called me two weeks ago and said it is on the way and will be here by Oct 10th at the latest. Awesome! I went to them with my trade in for a valuation… not enough. So listed it privately and sold it last week for an extra $3K over what they offered. They called me 3 days ago and said it’s in! My wife and I went and test rode it that day. This is going to be her vehicle. I was getting awesome brownie points. We started arranging insurance etc… then yesterday got the word. Can’t sell it to you until Q1 2023 ! My dealer has been great to work with and is now in scramble mode and looking for solutions for us next week.

No. Federal law prevents any vehicle subject to a recall from being sold. How about a waiver if it lets someone sign off to take the risk as an option?

I'm pretty sure it only applies to new vehicles.

I think it only applies to safety equipment. Some recalls are voluntary.

I think the problem is Ford's engineers haven't put together a solid method to replace them without damaging the vehicle yet. Airbags aren't meant to be removed.
