NY dealer add 3k to pre order!

Saturday morning, Sayville Ford Long Island calls me down to ‘pre order’ Maverick, tell him I know exactly what I want… base model Hybrid white hitch drop in liner, walks away comes back 3k added ‘cost you about 27k’
I get up walking away, ‘wait wait a moment’
I say ‘don’t worry about it, we’ll talk again’
I also remember some babble about crystal glob on the windshield and parts stamped if they are stolen, I asked if they ‘stamp’ the catalytic converter?

So you never saw a cost breakdown sheet of any kind to know exactly what was in the "$27k" and just bailed? $3k added to what starting figure?

More like closer to 4k to the order. The base price minus all the tax, title and fees should have been a little over 23k.

When they try to say its a great value or explain that its etching I just leave. Zero point in talking about it. Next dealer had no markup, no addons and took a plan with rebates. Shop the dealer, not the truck.

I always wonder what the utility of VIN etching is supposed to be? If my vehicle is stolen (or has parts stolen off of it) I have insurance. I really don't care if it can be more easily recovered if it has VIN etching because again, I have insurance. I have dealt with a whole lot of stolen vehicles over the course of my career. If mine is stolen, unless it is recovered right away (like less than a few hours) I don't want it back because it is going to be trashed. I'd rather have the insurance payout. If the insurance company wants VIN etching they can pay for it.

just to be crystal here, the 3k add had NOTHING to do with the windshield goop or stamping parts, those were to be about $1400 extra…that is on top of the added 3k
3k was a ‘mark up’ I guess you call it, you don’t wanna hear what I call it!

not happy but I figured either walk away Gor $500 or take the truck, I asked ‘what’s the extra $500?’
