Anyone else think Ford really dropped the ball with this part of the headlight design? My Ranger has blacked out housings and they look amazing. So much better than all the chrome…especially on a vehicle with no chrome! Wondering if companies like AlphaRex might produce a black housing light. Or if it might be worth it to have them professionally cracked, painted, and resealed.

Anyone talented enough with PS to mock us up a photo?

There really isn't much to black out. Everything highlighted in yellow is either a light source or has to be a reflective surface for the bulb. So only the tiny bit of trim could have been black. A much better upgrade IMO would have been to use "switchback" LED lighting. So you wouldn't have a separate incandescent blinker at all, and instead the white LED strip on top would change to amber color and flash.
Ford Maverick Ford, why no blacked out headlight housings? Captur

That's what my current aftermarket Alpharex headlights do, and sequentially, which is pretty cool. What I think they could do for the Maverick would be to make all three on the bottom be your low beams, and make the blinker area your high beams, and the LED strip above would glow white with normal use, and become sequential amber turn signals when needed.

I’m with you 100%. The chrome inside the headlight is tacky. Chrome in general is tacky these days. The main reason I got a 2019 f150 special edition was the complete removal of all chrome trim including in the headlights. All we can do is hope the aftermarket takes care of this for us.

Wow some of you folks have great ideas for some really "small details"... never in my life would I have thought of this matter for concern. I guess I am learning... but after reading down below and then going back and viewing pics on the web - this will not be a concern for my wallet and aftermarket... besides, I am getting 1st Edition and do not want to take away from the future value... hahahahaha!! Well, I am 10% hopeful one of my grandchildren will sell it on an Auction site someday... at 3 times the value I bought ($34k x 3 = $102k?) Ok, let the jokes fly... I am man enough to take it!

I chuckled out loud at 'dropped the ball' and the later comment about buying an F-150 BECAUSE it didn't have any chrome.

I ordered a Maverick because of its utility, economics, and environmental design. The fact that I can also choose its color is a plus.

I think there is more that they could have blacked out than even the little that is on the Lariat. Here’s a close up of the Lariat headlight. Seems like they have blacked out as much as they can moving back into the bucket. No qualms with that. But if they would’ve blacked out the chrome trim (the part that I highlighted yellow like a 1st grader) it would have looked great IMO. Also, I know the Lariat has the signature lighting in the top opaque portion but what’s this area for on the other trims? Nothing that I know of. They could have blacked all of that out.

Yes, I think it’s fair to say they dropped the ball. They missed a small opportunity to make the truck just slightly more aggressive or sporty. They did it on the Ranger…every trim I believe. And it’s an option on the F150. Chrome is ugly and dated. I know that’s an opinion but I’m not alone in it. I absolutely bought my last F150 in STX trim because it had nearly no chrome and I will every other vehicle from now on. If I’m going to pay that much for something, it’s going to be to my liking.

Ford designed and built a small hybrid truck to appeal to younger generations who love mid-century modern decor and older boomers who remember mid-century modern decor, and both groups are reserving and ordering them - but sure, Ford should design a small version of some other kind of truck.

Not being rude but you’re being a little closed minded. It isn’t only a hybrid truck. It also comes with a turbocharged non-hybrid engine for people who want things their way, right? They also offer it in three trim levels, two drive configurations, and with two different tow ratings because we aren’t all the same. I didn’t order it because I wanted a small hybrid truck. I’m also not really a “younger generation” or an “older boomer” so not sure what I was thinking.

All I’m saying is I love the blacked out headlights on my Ranger and I personally really wish Ford would have done the same to the Mav. It’s not for everyone. Some love the chrome and some couldn’t care less. But if you’re one of the ones that couldn’t care less, why comment on this thread? Just to bash someone else’s thoughts? That’s how it seems.

I apologize if you didn’t mean it that way. It’s hard to determine tone through a post sometimes. But it seems like we have a small group of people around here that just surf around looking for a way to argue with someone or post a rude reply. I like to think I have pretty thick skin but it’s getting pretty old.

But what you actually said was that Ford dropped the ball.

Completely random tangent, but this has been weirding me out since I read a clickbait article about how scary trucks look these days. The article was largely bunk, but it did get me thinking about how trucks just keep getting bigger, and there did seem to be something more intimidating about them. And I started noticing that yes, people like scary. A disturbing amount of people seem to want a truck that makes pedestrians and fellow highway drivers shit themselves in terror. I'm not accusing anyone in particular of this, including who I'm quoting, but it does seem to be a weird, distressing trend.

I'm glad the Maverick doesn't look aggressive or intimidating. I'm trying to drive places to do thing, not ride the Sauronmobile into battle to take over Middle-Earth.

I to am past the chrome. A little is ok, but I think vehicles look great when they get "darkened"! I think that the CGM Maverick will give me that blank palette to darken as I like. When I want to go all black then I'll ride my freedom, mind clearing, loads O'fun machine pictured below!
