Hello everyone, has anyone had this issue yet?
I have my Maverick Lariat lux 2.0 in the shop right now since Tuesday for this loud vibration metal on metal sound. It seems to happen roughly at 30, 35mph when you are decelerating. If you hold it at 1800rpms or 18000 and I'm not sure what he said, it stays loud. I did get an oil change at a Ford dealership, and it soon started after the oil change. I took it back to Ford and they took it in the back to look at it and said everything under it is tight and it's not that plate they took off to change the oil.
The guy that checks you in then tells me that it's my front Lic. plate cover. I told him no it's not that because if it was that then it would sound like plastic hitting and it's not. He said up to me if I want them to look at it. I said Well that is the reason why I brought it in. He says that it will be there for a few days for them to look at it. He then calls me about 2 hours later and said that he took it out and at 1800 rpms you can hear it. I said so it's not plastic vibrating and he said no. I was right, and he agreed. Now he said that as soon at one of the tech guys is done with the one in front of me.
I get a call the next day and he said that he and the tech guy drove it and said that the sound is coming from the back seat. I was like ?????? the back seat area? yes, they can hear it and the tech guy was in the passenger seat and he was able to put pressure on a panel and it would almost make it go away. He said they will look at it in more detail and call me back.
Friday came around and I ended up calling back because it was already 430pm pacific time and I have not heard from them. He had to call me back because he didn't have any detail on it. He ends up calling me back and says the tech guy says that the sound was not from inside which I already knew that just by the sound, that he things it's a panel outside and it will take a bit to try to find out where and what's making that sound. S they have my truck for the weekend and I'm down a truck. Thank god I have a second one.
I can tell they have no idea what's causing this and I'm sure they are getting a few different techs involved to figure this out.
I doubt that they did this but since they took that plate cover off to get to the oil filter, they should take that off again and see if someone left something on it to cause this sound. This would have been my first thing to check on. I do know how to change the oil, spark plugs and a few other things. it's not my first rodeo.

If it were me, up on the ramps, take that bloody plate off and set it in the garage and drive the truck and see what happens. I can see a bolt being cross threaded allowing for the vibration. What the hell, worth a shot.

But.........if that 18,000 RPM is not a typo, I'm willing to bet that is your reason right there. :ROFLMAO:

I had my rear window open and I heard a vibration around that speed, but I thought when I pressed the gas slightly. But I was fiddling with it, so maybe when I let off.

Sounded like a metal shield kind of vibration.

I haven’t even gone through my first tank of gas yet.

I closed the window, didn’t want to worry about I yet. Didnā€˜t heard it other times yet. So I will be very interested in what you find out.

We've had this kind of issue on two vehicles. Once it was the heat shield above the catalytic converter and the other time a broken weld on a baffle inside the muffler. Almost forgot, another time it was the tin rock guard on the inside edge of the front rotor got bent and was rubbing against the rotor itself.
