I have seen a lot of videos about the 2.0 ecoboost motor in the escape, having issues with coolant getting into @ 2 cylinder, with the only cure being to replace the engine. Does anyone know if this defect has been fixed for the Maverick?

First of all, welcome to MTC. Once you get past the video's, and research "coolant intrusion" , you'll find that the blocks were re-designed mid/late 2019, well before production of Maverick started.

Welcome to MTC... lots of information on here. Poke around and explore the comments. I'll tell you I picked up mine in November and have had no issues at all. Sometimes old problems with similar products get re-introduced as something current. The folks on here are a great source to sort out concerns.

The block on the 2.0L ecoboost engine had a slot running between the cylinders for coolant. In some cases the coolant was going into the adjacent cylinders (coolant intrusion). Not sure how it was happening. Either the heads or the head gasket would have to had warp. But Ford redesigned the slot on the cylinder head into a smaller round shaped hole that is supposed to have solved the problem. Some Focus ST owners with the same engine have gotten over 100k no problems. I think it comes down to 1) Not beating the hell out of it by always accelerating hard off a stoplight and street racing, etc. and 2) keeping up with the maintenance.

My daughters 2018 Escape with the 1.5EB suffered this failure, at 25K, and she drives like an old lady, plus I can provide all the maintenance records from my local Ford dealers. But, go ahead and try to blame the vehicle owners if it makes you feel better.

My 2018 Escape had this failure at 10k miles. I traded it in for the Maverick Hybrid

Did I say I was blaming anyone to "make myself feel better"? Geez chill out. I was just saying that the 2.0L ecoboost has been a reliable engine for some with no issues while others have had the coolant intrusion. Ford changed the head design to address the issue. Whether the change has solved the problem completely I don't know. I think the change was made in 2020. Besides I was talking about the 2.0L ecoboost not the 1.5L ecoboost.

it's been a couple of years now since the fix, plenty of time and I have not heard of any intrusion issues like before. I am not an expert but did some research on the subject before electing to get the EB in a Maverick.

There is another intrusion factor common to this engine and that is fuel in the oil. I plan on running Mobil 1 EP and change it once a year which will be 3000 miles. That should take care of that.

1.5 is a different design.

All GDI engine’s suffer from this. This is a result of the oil not getting hot enough to boil off the gasoline dilution. Short trips=bad

Do your research. In 2018, the 1.5EB was a 4-cyl, and went thru the same slot vs hole change to the blocks as the 2.0's did. I'm not talking about the 1.5EB 3-cylinder that debuted in 2020.

Yeah once you understand the issue it's easy to deal with. I do a LOT of short trip, stop and go driving. Technically this counts as severe use and I will be changing the oil and other fluids according to that schedule.

They do, no argument from me. The GM version, forget what they call it as I am NO GM fan seems to not have as much of an issue as the Ecoboost. There are YouTube videos about it. Bottom line, run high grade synthetics and change the oil often. Oil is cheap, just not as cheap as it used to be.

Yes they fixed it. This 2.0eb is the second gen and all these motors are made in Spain which have a better track record for reliability. As mentioned change your oil often (every 5k) if you do short trips. The turbo degrades the oil faster.
