Maverick muffler rip off?

My hybrid Lariat Mav has finally reached my dealership (after ordering it 10+ months ago)! However, the salesman is telling me that the "two-piece" muffler was cut off the vehicle while it was awaiting transport in the storage yard in Portland, OR. He is adamant that it is NOT the catalytic converter that is missing' but the muffler. He is also saying half of the two-piece muffler is available within a week but the other half is on back order and it could take 6-8 weeks to get it! Does this make sense? Why would a thief steal the muffler and not the catalytic converter? I've looked the truck over inside and out (NICE) but I have not crawled underneath. I want to believe my salesman is being totally up front with me, but I'm thinking I should crawl under the truck and see for myself if something is missing in the exhaust system. I assume if I crawl under there, a missing muffler (or catalytic converter) would be pretty obvious, right? Are there any videos or photographs available that show the exhaust system for the hybrid Maverick? I'd appreciate your input! Thanks.

So, between the exhaust manifold and the tip of the tail pipe there should be a catalytic converter pretty far forward and a muffler further back?

Sucks that it happened... They can't get to the cat on the hybrid. So what they ended up taking was the resonator and muffler.. They will find out what they took isn't worth much....

I think it's called a resonator. But it vaguely resembles a CAT and the actual CAT is hidden up in the engine bay. So someone who is (dumb/high/in a hurry) just cuts out the resonator and thinks they scored.

I actually got to sit in a Maverick at a local dealer a month ago. It was the only one they had on the lot and it was only there because someone cut out the CAT or resonator at the Portland, Oregon rail yard. Per the salesman it had been sitting there for 2 months waiting for parts. I don't remember if it was a hybrid or ECO at this point. They might want to put some security at the Portland rail yard. Oh, wait it's Portland, never mind.

My dealership did have another Maverick that came in on the same truck as mine and it DID have the cat cut off.

Bet you I got to sit in it. They wouldn't let me drive it (obviously), or start it but all I wanted to do was see how the interior felt size wise. Wife and I both sat in front and rear and felt it would work for us.

BTW, earlier that day I stopped by Frontier Ford in Anacortes and right out front they had a brand new Ford Lightning. All tricked out at $94,604 + tax and license!!!

Area 51 XLT. They had it parked way out back so we got a golf cart ride out to see it.

That XLT definitely had the cat removed. Wish I could talk them into putting the remaining XLT exhaust system on my Lariat.
