They look the same height to me. The blue one's bed looks a little taller perhaps because of the tonneau cover on it.

Because FX4 is marketed as more off-road purposed. Higher ground clearance typically goes hand-in-hand with off-roaders.
Pretty sure this FX4 as well as the new one at the dealer I saw have not been lowered.

But yeah, my post is not to debate with you about your upcoming mod. Just a general statement as to why I doubt this FX4 is lowered.
I don’t think the FX4 has different suspension than the typical AWD models
It for sure doesn’t have extra height/ground clearance

Different rear suspension in the two models. Fwd has I think a live rear axle and awd has independent rear suspension.

Hybrid may be higher in height, because they are lighter in weight.

check the body builder's guide.

it is a factual reference with design measurements. not faulted by subjective perspectives.

FX4 has "mono tube" rear shocks. Standard AWD does not.

I actually noticed the same thing at my dealer this weekend. They had an FX4 Lariat and FWD XL, both Ecoboost, and the FWD was noticeably taller. I thought I was losing my mind. Also, a taller truck doesn’t mean more ground clearance. Depends more on what’s underneath.

Based on the Body Builder's Guide posted above, BOTTOM OF REAR BUMPER VALANCE TO GROUND @ CURB (BASE TIRE) : FHEV:361 / EB FWD: 366 / EB AWD: 349

You can speculate on the reasons, but my guess would be the independent rear suspension.

Edit: The BBG posted above by @chuckles does not specify a difference between FX4 and non-FX4 AWD.

FE Hybrid has a larger wheel size, 17 inch instead of 16.
18 rather than 17. But the ratio of the 18's is lower so they both have approximately the same diameter; nominally 1/10th of an inch.

Why is that? I'm planning on it.
Because FX4 is marketed as more off-road purposed. Higher ground clearance/higher ride height are selling points for that purpose.

So yeah, it would seem odd to me for someone to upgrade to FX4 then lower it. Hope this helps clarify my thought rather than start a debate on your decision.

(having said that, I do not believe the FX4 in the photo or the other one I saw at the dealer were lowered.)

You assume someone intentionally "upgraded" to FX4, instead of taking what was available. You do know that you can't just walk onto a dealer lot and have your choice of myriad configurations, right? Lucky if you find one Maverick in stock and available at a time. In the entire area.

Or wanting it for bragging rights, or any number of other reasons.
