I did get out early this morning (Sunday) and finished up with everything except waxing the wheels, putting protectorate on the tonneau, and cleaning the interior. I spent almost 4 hours this morning because I had to clean the grille again after finding lots of little tar streaks, especially in awkward places. Very tedious work, but I have the time. I have to admit, the truck sure looks good when I finished the waxing.
Finally, completely finished up detailing my VB XL this morning. Took a while over a 3 day period, but I had to pause the washing, waxing, and polishing because of the remaining tar streaks. Then again, I don't work as fast as I used to and Saturday and Sunday were 103° heat. The heat slowed me down even more. The heat was probably a Godsend since the tar remained pliable and which made it easier to remove, not requiring rubbing compound.

I did get an early 7:00 AM start waxing the wheels, cleaning all the interior hard surfaces, and waxing the VB on inside of the doors. Went back over the exterior with a large and dry super fluffy chenille microfiber towel. Man the dry towel this morning made the truck look super good. I wish the TW Wax & Dry product would last a little longer but it looks good when attention is paid to the details. Next up is a ceramic coat of some kind.

With the truck now in shipping 09/23 order. I’m trying to figure how to repurpose kayak holders that traditionally go on roof bars.

I’d like them to be able to mount in the bed. I’m thinking a dowel rod running across the bed mounted to a small 2x6 on either end to go into the bed slot. Thoughts?
Are you going to be using a bed cover? If not, then you have a lot more options for bed racks.

Just a vinyl roll up bed cover. Looking for most cost effective approach. No bed cross rails. No hitch extender (well last resort).

I have a bed extender with my order so that may help or hurt. 2 - 10’ SOT yaks.

You can put a couple 10’ yaks in the back, in various ways.

Yesterday, we drove to Tyler to visit our niece and her husband and also drive to Bullard to go through our niece's mother's belongings. She passed away a year ago last May. My wife and our niece have been dreading the trip, but finally resigned themselves they are need to, sooner or later.

Anyway, we took our XL to help haul some of the larger things and ended up loading an old steamer trunk, an antique sewing machine with an oak cabinet, and a beautiful mahogany coffee table from 1930, or so.

Finally got someone to take some photos. It was dusk and pretty dark when the photos were taken, but the truck still looks good from the three previous days work. Shines nice even in low light. This morning, when we were getting ready to drive home, I found more of that stupid tar. It's been a pain.

Here are the photos:

Had two people stop me today while in traffic. One was in Tyler at a stop light. The guys in the left turn lane caught my wife's attention and asked me how long I had the Maverick and if it was electric. I told him no, and he said, "Oh Gas then." He then said he had ordered his electric and was still waiting on it. I assume he was talking about a hybrid.

The second guy stopped me as we were driving around the lake to our home. The road is a one lane and I pulled over for the guy to get by as we met. He was driving a Lexus and stopped when he got next to us. He asked if we liked the truck and of course we said we did. Then he surprised me a bit and asked if I minded telling him how much it costs. I thought it ironic a man driving a fairly new Lexus was inquiring about price. Anyway, I told him it was about $25,700. He was a little surprised and said he was wanting a truck.

Have you received yours yet?
Nope still waiting for them. I think they quoted 6 weeks since they have to custom make them based on the colors that I chose (two greys).

Cool. Please let us know how they are when they come in. I'm very close to placing an order for myself.
