I'ma do my first at 5K. I drive a lot of highway miles so thinking the ICE works more than normal.

And definitely rotate and balance the tires. That's one of the reasons your ride is so nice. Wear 'em evenly.

I guess i didnt mention, i m at 6500m. Oil is still amber, ride is still phoemoninal. Dont really want to rotate but will(i wont rotate without balancing). I want to ensure complete engine break in.

If you truly care, I've followed the OLM on every modern (MY2000+?) vehicle I've owned (close to 20) and yes, I sleep very well at night. 🤠

Is anyone else going to wait for the 10000m oil change on the initial oc?

And i really dont want to rotate tires and balance them because Mav runs/rides great and dont want to mess with greatness.
I did my oil change at just over 5000 miles and had the tires rotated. Rotating the tires will also help the tires last longer. The main reason I also did it at 5000 is that I was part of the Spray in Bedliner/gas tank recall. My gas tank was okay, no holes. I'll probably change it next in just less than the next 10,000 miles. I'll continue rotating the tires when I do.

I generally do the first oil change at about 1000 miles and switch over to synthetic. Then about every 6 months or 4-5k miles after. But I don't drive much as I work close to home. I usually hit 6 months before I reach any mileage to change it. Just my preference and everyone has a different opinion or driving habits/mileage than me. I think its fine no matter which method you chose or prefer as long as you do actually change the oil occasionally. I'm not a fan of the oil life monitor or 10k oil change intervals personally. I do rotate the tires each time I do the oil change.

I also do a dump and fill on the transmission fluid about once a year as well. I haven't been under a maverick yet but I would assume it similar to a 6f35 like an Escape eco boost has (at least in the EB version of the Maverick) and has a super easy to get at pipe thread like drain plug. Obviously that only really changes about 1/3-1/2 the total capacity each time as a bunch is still left in the torque converter but just something I like to do.

In fact, if anyone has their under engine cover off to do an oil change on a 2.0 EB Maverick could you take a pic of the bottom of the trans for me and post it or PM me? I'd appreciate it.

Thx for replies. I usually am very religious about tire rotation as well, but damn the thing drives perfect and i dont have enough confidence in most of the shops to mess it up. I wonder if the tire store will let me do my own labor and just use their machines, heck i will offer to train their employees. I am old school on the inital OC, the oil has to remain long enough to break in.

I have had out standing luck/performance with the M1 EP the OA will easily blow though 10k, which lines up really easy. I dont know if i will base my OCI on my OA, although looking at the undercar skirting it looks to be a little involved to do the oil change, already thinking of ways to make it easier. I have a few ideas already.

Hey centexmav, where you hail from i am hill country..Spicewood 71w..

I had my first oil change done @ 10k. Had the tires rotated as well (not rebalanced). Dealer put a 5k sticker on the windshield which I thought was odd, but whatever.

I'm at 4500 miles. Getting my oil change and rotation done as I just do them together. not sure why you would need a rebalance every time though.

also oil color has literally no semblance on if the oil is good shape. Just a FYI

Cactus, thx, i am going for 10k as well.

I am just speaking out loud here, it just doesnt make sense to me to remove the tires and not throw them on the balance machine.

I have balanced tires everytime a rotation, how do you know they are out of balance? I am not that good to know a 1/4oz difference on a tire/wheel combo. Plus i like to watch them spin to see if anythings out of round or runout.

A visual color indication can reveal a number of problems with oil 1)soot contamination 2) fuel oil dilution 3) water/coolant dilution. I can go on. 4) metal particles can be observed. I even do the old school rub between the fingers check.

I guess i been doing it 50yrs and can tell quite a bit about oil and engine condition.

A rotation is pulling the entire wheel and relocating it. Not removing just the tire onto a different wheel. If I was putting new tires on wheels then yea I would get them balanced but for rotating its over kill. Vibration in would tell you or irregular wear if they were out.

Yea I've seen amber oil fail multiple lab test while used blacked out oil come back with no issue. if you really want to check it, send it out for a analysis. your senses literally cannot tell you 90% of what's going on with your oil.

I am well versed in OA, as i have been doing them over 50yrs, i did them in the Coast Guard on the marine diesels in the 70s 2 stroke diesel engines. We see what we want to see, its amazing what you can get out of our senses when you use them. No i cant tell whats wrong with oil by color, but i sure can can whats right with it, and basic troubleshooting involves ruling out whats right vs. whats wrong.

I am well versed in what the difference is between tire rotation and tire balancing, how long do you wait to balance your tires, you wait until you have a problem eh? So you wait until you have a worn tire to balance? I dont like to react to problems, i would much rather use predictive maintenance procedures and address the procedure before its a problem. I still dont see what the big deal is about having the tire/wheel assembly in your hands and putting it on a spin balancer since you have it removed from the vehicle. I quess my maintenance rountine has some logic to it as i have gotten over 100000m on a set of tires, and i even got 108000m out of a set of OEM goodyear on a F150, heck i had to move them to another truck.

I cant remember when the last time they spun my wheel/tire assembly and ALL 4 were balanced. And i would still argue if one could tell your wheel/tire assembly is 1/4oz. off/out of balance.

Hope this experience helps you.

I just did it on my Hybrid around 9.5K (figure there’s less actual usage of motor to justify an oil change super early since it’s semi synthetic). I got a rotation and my dealer noted tread life as a few ticks less on the fronts… makes sense for fwd.

I did feel the truck feeling rougher but then I checked the air pressure and it was way higher than door sticker, worse it was biased rear wards which I can’t understand!

Oc. Good thought on the OC, heres a thought as well, the FWD, there is an open differential so really one front tire wears faster then the others, thats the tire to watch for wear. Thx, thats another thing i dont like them playing with is the air pressure, i have gotten to the point where i tell them ahead of time dont mess with pressures. Theres a read out in the display so i check before driving off first thing.

Alot of times i run more pressure in the front to help reduce understeer, the back end in a pickup is SO light and it bounces over the least bump so i like to run lower pressures in the rears, unless i am towing and or loading the bed.(this practice is my F150, i havent practiced this in the FWD Mav yet).

I have 9,735 miles and plan on doing the FIRST OC at 10k, but it says it has 13 percent oil life left.
