I picked up my new Maverick after waiting almost nine months. I was happy to get it and am still quite happy.

I traded in a 2014 Fusion Hybrid. The Fusion gets better mileage but then it is a car and not a truck. I still like the mileage I get but so far with about 1200 miles, I am getting an average of 37 miles per gallon. Most highway miles.

The issue I have with the front bumper is that I already have peeling paint from a couple of rock or bug hits. Overall, I am quite happy with the truck. I would like better mileage though.

I bought the XLT with nothing extra.

The paint on these are reported to not be the best.
Which is complete bullshit. Besides the bumpers are made and painted, with a completely different type of paint, at a tier one supplier.
OP, do you have pics of the peeling paint?

What is bs the the paint is really thin and has issues? What evidence do you have. Here is a report of tested how thin the paint is on these things https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...erience-thin-paint-ceramic-coating-etc.14921/ Stop drinking the coolaid
I'll reiterate again for the slow people. Paint regardless of quality has to pass very stringent requirements...
Salt spray
Mandrell bend
Impact Resistance
Abrasion Resistance
Adhesion
DFT, yes total film build
UV resistance
Water Soak
DOI
Gloss
Color
I've probably missed a quite a few. My point being yes the paint may be 'thinner' but it also still has to pass these requirements. And yes it may be a pain for the detailer because of the 'thinner' paint. But that doesn't make it crappy paint.
It is you that are drinking the cool aide of bad paint.

Again no evidence, so i will leave my proof with someone that actually measured the paint and you can leave your opinion. Good day.

No evidence of what???... These are approx. film builds
Electrocaot - .8 - 1.0
Primer - 1.0 - 1.2
Basecoat - .8 - 1.4, (color dependent)
Clearcoat - 1.3 - 1.5
That totals approx. 3.5 - 4.5 dry mils.
This does not constitute low film builds

And btw I've measured more friggin paint films than I care to remember.

Dont listen to this guy. The memeber that actually measured their paint was down to 2.28 with an average of 3.15. Nowhere near what the above claims. But the evidence is there for one to decide.

Legitimate question: what is the Ford spec for the paint on the Maverick? You’ve quoted a series of very common paint test methods, but that means nothing if Ford hasn’t required their suppliers to meet them. I can also suggest that a number of these specs are qualitative at best and don’t always reflect the real world durability of a coating system.

I’ll add, I’m not on any side of the paint issue except for being on the side of hoping that there are no issues on my Maverick. I do however have a lot of experience in analyzing failures of paint on military aircraft so if things go bad on my truck I’m going to be the first to notice and competently raise the red flags on it.

No worries. Of course the OEM's require the specifications to be met. Paper work with test results have to be submitted and generally a sample of the paint is submitted to the OEMs to test themselves.
Yes of course they're quantitative. Do they always match real world conditions? Of course not. The impact resistance may mean more to the farmer with a long gravel road than the urbanite with paved roads. And the farmer may bitch more because his vehicle has chips vs. the urbanite having none. That still does not mean the paint is bad. It simply cannot hold up to daily beating the farmer's truck takes.
I might be able to get my hands on the Ford specs. I've been out of the OEM business for quite a few years then retired a couple of years ago. I still have contacts though...
I was a technical service rep myself. So as with you it was my job to figure out problems

Hi there, Rick! This doesn’t sound like the experience we want you to be having with your Maverick. Please go ahead and send us a private message with your VIN and dealership information. I’d be happy to look into these front bumper paint concerns for you. Thank you.

Wherein the "evidence" consists of the opinions of a high school dropout with a claybar and a $26 paint gauge.

Dude. You should know by now...

You can't tell these children anything.
