while I think the "ford requires' need verification, it seems Planet Ford is a good dealership (rating from ford website). I noticed that the bad dealerships have no ratings...'hmmm'.

I have seen better grammar from Nigerian Finance Ministers asking for my account information.

Keep your money in your account and order on-line.

go to the Ford website and in the top right corner for dealer locations. I believe the bad dealerships have the ability to remove their reviews so they have 'no reviews'. we all know that is not true!

Deposits are not required. They only make sense in a market flooded with vehicles when a dealer doesn't want to be stuck with dead inventory if the buyer backs out. In that case, they may require a "non-refundable" deposit. Heck, in today's market I'm surprised dealers aren't paying us for orders.
Dealers are taking advantage of the situation with requiring non-refundable deposits plus stealing customer orders and sell them at exorbitant prices. It's time for Ford to do a buy direct like Tesla's.

I don't post much, but I do read a lot of posts. A reoccurring theme seems to be the problem with larger dealerships jacking prices, asking for large deposits and selling buyers ordered vehicles to other people for more money. I didn't go to my local dealer for those same reasons because I knew their reputation. I found a small dealership about 50 or so miles from where I lived to order my Maverick. I ordered it 7/16/21 picked it up 10/22/21. No problems, no deposit, nothing but great service without the hassle. The large dealers are numbers driven. The small dealers want and need your business and will work hard to keep it.
2022 Maverick Lariat with premium package 2.0L Eco boost. Last road trip 32.8 MPG loving every minuet of driving it.

This is solid advice, thanks! Just trying to figure out if this is the normal fee for reserving, first time new truck buyer here.
Mine was $100. Ford doesn’t need to show any money paid just your license and info. The dealer doesn’t need a deposit cause if you back out. Then they just made $10k more on ur vehicle you don’t claim but selling it as stock.

Less likely to happen with a high deposit.
Hopefully they don't try to charge you more than you agreed to, but I'm not sure why you would think that a larger deposit would keep a dealer from charging more? A dealer's going to do what they want, regardless of the size of the deposit they've been given, and there's honestly not much recourse for the consumer.

The problem with that is, if you wanted a hybrid you would probably still be waiting since smaller dealers haven’t got very many allocations.

I feel like if you give ANY deposit, there should be a reciept, or more importantly, a remaining balance. The dealership could sign that and that becomes the firm final amount. When I ordered mine June 10th, I didn't think ahead. I had no idea dealership would, or even be allowed to sell ORDERED vehicles above MSRP. It shouldn't be legal.

Not disagreeing, but they do it for a living. People aren't likely to get one over on the dealerships, no matter what someone says.

I had my order sheet signed by the dealership and myself, and even with that - as I waited and read stories of people getting screwed over - I was worried. Emailed my sales guy and had him reassure me it was at MSRP and I wouldn't be screwed over. Even with that I was still apprehensive when he called to let me know my truck arrived in January. My dealer was great though. Not pushy, and I paid what I agreed to in June of last year.

I made a $3000 deposit (refundable) for my 2022 Maverick back in September. It's dealer preference, just make sure you clarify whether you get it back if you cancel your order.

Deposits are a good thing IMO, holds the dealer accountable for your order.

From what I understand the deposit varies by state. In CA I put $100 on my first order and they didn’t require a deposit on the second order. 🤷🏾‍♂️
