After multiple failed attempts to plasti dip spray the chrome lariat badging, I decided to spray the entire thing - letters and plastic accent trim.

My first failed attempt ended up with the plasti dip not separating from the letters. Second attempt, I tried to score the outline of the letters with an exacto knife but same results. The excess still did not separate from the letters and pulled the plasti dip off of them. I just couldn't replicate how these dudes were able to make it look so easy on YouTube. And so since it's easily peal-able I just went ham on the thing with little fear of repercussions.

So this is how it looks after spraying the entire thing. Matte black matches with the black factory trim spot on. I can't remember how many coats I did; lost count after 5. Anyways, I'm really happy with the results. Hopefully it'll last for a couple of years. Oh and I definitely recommend using trim removal tools to pry the accent trim piece off.

Did my friend's tesla rims. 1 month in, and she already curbed one of her rims. Smh. I think the matte black looks better than the OEM satin black

I really wanted to do this to my badges. I already did my hybrid wheels with the piano black hyper dip.

I think if you did just the XLT letters, it would really pop. That's what I tried to do at first but the Lariat letters were just too darn small. The prep work with masking tape would be quite tedious, I imagine.

I think I want the whole thing tho. I don’t want it to match the trim I want it to be like the paint..

So as far as getting them off, No screw’s or anything holding them in just clips that I can pry from the outside? I have trim tools, so like start at top, bottom sides?

Yep. All metal clips. If I remember correctly, there were 2 on top, 1 on each side and 1 on the bottom. Worked my way from top to bottom. The bottom clip was quite stubborn, I had to really use some force to yank it off. The metal clip came off with the accent piece, but not an issue.

I have a feeling, if you match it with the paint, color matching the rest of the plastic trim is in your future. Black ice on wheels. 😂

Right! That is def in my future! I actually just re watched MrBooms video on removing it. He just reached in from hood and pinched each clip and it popped out… I have a can and a half left from my wheels so I am doing the badges tomorrow morning. Not sure why I haven’t done this yet! Thanks for reminding me!!

My grill bar is screaming to be sprayed next. That silver color looks so out of place. And I feel I have to see this matte black theme through till the end.

The good news.. I was able to remove the grill bar without removing the entire bumper to spray it black. The bad news.. I still ended up removing the entire bumper to retrieve a screw and two number 7 sockets I accidentally dropped. 😱😭🤬 What was suppose to be a quick 2 hour project (mostly waiting in between coats) turned into a 5 hour job. 😤

Well I did it today! I am wearing a red shirt so it’s reflecting on the badge, It’s not a red paint. Lol

I hate the silver on mine. I need to do this, but not drop the bolts. Lol

You definitely don't want that to happen. The amount of push pins, bolts, torx screws in the wheel well, under the bumper, and on top of the radiator that had to be removed was overkill. At least I'll know what to do if I ever end up doing something to those tow hook covers.
