His prep work must have been garbage, because there's black flecks all over my roof, along the bed rails, and the clear coat is now rough feeling all over the truck.

I want the paint fixed back to factory condition. Do you think it's reasonable to get a couple quotes from reputable detailers for full clay bar and polishing to remove the overspray and ask him to pay for it? It's well beyond my ability to fix and I don't trust him to do it without damaging my paint.

I called Friday when I noticed the over spray. Le

This is particularly frustrating since a) the paint color is a $495 option and b) this is my first ever new car.

Did you get the SIBL after the truck was built or did it come from the factory like that? Either way absolutely, you should definitely go back to them and demand that the overspray be fixed.

This is inexcusable with the cheap plastic masking sheeting that is commonly available. Full masking of all unpainted areas is a must, easy, and cheap. Get it fixed right and pass the bill on to whoever attempted to apply the bed liner. I would be surprised if a clay bar would remove the bed liner overspray.

This is an aftermarket bed liner, not factory.

Since posting, the bed liner installer called me back and said he could fix it with diluted methanol and a plastic razor blade. I pushed back against that idea since the extent of the over spray covers such a large area and I am uncomfortable having him wipe the paint with methanol. I have no idea what that will do to the clear coat and honestly I'm not even sure if that will fix the overspray that isn't visible as black flecks but felt as roughness on the surface.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust the installer who messed things up to then properly correct his screw-up. Tell him you're not comfortable with his fix proposal and then get a few quotes from reputable detail shops. Tell installer he'll have to pay for the error of his way. Good luck.

FWIW, I did my own spray-on/roll-on bed liner and got some spots on my rear fenders (from me leaning on the truck). I was able to get all my spots (large and small) off with bug and tar remover. However, I did this within a day or two of applying the liner.

I would do it myself. I would go to Walmart or an auto store and buy a clay bar. It is not that hard. PS. I know you should not have to do this.

I did a small section with clay bar and was unable to completely remove all the overspray. Plus, done properly, clay bar should be followed by polishing, which I lack the skill and tools to do.

I was thinking of using the chain Ziebart to get a liner...was this by them per chance? Now I'm freaking out about getting this done lol

Oof, this is frustrating.

I would also want a professional detailer to fix this and not the spray in bedliner person, unless they do pro detailing, too.

It wasn't Ziebart.

Ask your installer specifically how they protect against overspray. This truck is apparently far more difficult to install on than a bed on frame since a physical guard cannot drop between the cab and bed.

Thank you, great idea and I never thought about that space being gone (although it's very apparent) and how that could impact how they paint the bed. I appreciate it.

FYI unless it’s a huge national bedliner company you aren’t going to get much $ from a shop that made $500 off your project
See what they’ll give you and put it towards a professional paint correction and coating
With a color like that it’ll be well worth the money spent (professional correction and coating will cost north of a grand most likely, with exceptions of course)
Cyber Orange is worthy of that service

I mean, they damaged my truck and they're obligated to repair it. If they refuse I'll take them to small claims court. I'm not wiling to let them weasel out of their obligation to make me whole. Sometimes businesses lose money on a job. This will probably be the case here.

And FWIW the cost was $658 out the door.

I’m not saying it right, but is it worth your time and frustration?
Same line of thinking about not letting them correct it themselves
The cost to do paint correction won’t be more than if they didn’t get overspray on it
Def make them give you something for your trouble, just make sure your expectations are in line with reality

With them offering to correct, I’d think small claims court may not end the way you hope it will

But let us know how it goes
