I have read the entire 500+ pages of the operator’s manual, but can’t find an explanation for the slot shown. I have a XLT Hybrid. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

It's not a trim thing, but rather engine. The Ecoboost has extra buttons for auto start/stop. Instead the hybrid has the card holder slot.

Next time you go through the drive-thru put your debit/credit card there so you don't fumble with your wallet or purse and hold up the line.

If you insert your credit card, it allows the vehicle to act as a giant RFID chip at drive through windows, and now you don't have to scramble to put your credit card away while the server hands you bags of food and drinks all at once. The vehicle transacts for you, all hands free. Just be wary of the people with skimmers at red lights. They may try to charge your car(d) while you are stopped so don't forget to pull the card when don't want to transact.

On page 603 of the owner's manual only given to VIP's and Ultra-Loyalty Program members the answer is listed. It is a card reader for VIP Ford Pass members. It will get you parts which are listed as out of stock for ordinary members. I will also get you a guaranteed appointment with your local service department within three weeks. Note: Card is revoked if you give your dealer less than a five-star rating.
