Hi,

after I looked carefully into the details of both XLT and XL trims, I decided to change my order from XLT to XL. The main reason I chose XLT over the XL were the really sharp looking alloy wheels and this really doesn't justify the 2300 price difference between both trims. Below are again all differences between the XL and XLT Trims:

Exterior

- XL has a black Grille bar vs XLT with the Grey bar: I actually prefer the black of XL over the XLT
- XL is missing 4 tie downs (10 total XLT vs 6 XL) and the small storage box in the bed area: Not a big deal, I wont miss those
- No power lock tail gate for XL, you have to use the key to lock and unlock the tailgate: Not a big deal at all
- XL base comes without power mirrors: I added Copilot 360 to my XL and this includes power mirrors

Interior

- No cruise control in XL: this seem to be the main reason for people choose XLT over XL, I hardly use the CC on my other cars and don't need it
- XLT has the fancy interior vs XL mainly black: This is another reason I prefer the XL over XLT. The XLT interior looks too busy to me and I really like the XL interior.
- The back seats of the XLT has a fold down armrest with cup holders: Really don't need it

Safety and Security

- XLT has Securi Code key pad: I dont need it at all
- XLT Headlamps are wiper activated: No need for it
- XLT has the perimeter alarm: Next to the Alloy Wheels, this is the only options I really miss in the XL trim. I think I can get it installed after delivery or will buy an aftermarket alarm.

Did I miss anything? If those are all the differences between XL and XLT, I think I am absolutely fine with the XL trim and will add some nice aftermarket alloy wheels and alarm, this will cost me max 1000 dollars (most probably less)and I will save 1300 dollars.

I added the following options to my XL: Ford Copilot 360, Touchlink Bed lighting, Spray in bed liner, rear sliding window, trailer hitch, hing lock, 110V outlet. The total comes down to 23,170 Dollars, which is a steal for this truck.

I would love to hear your opinions about my choice.

Thanks!

smart to use Cost/benefit analysis in situations like this (y) I'm constantly amazed by how many people don't on high $ purchases.

Thank you!
When you buy a car from the lot, you have to take what is there and will buy some options you will never use. Here we have the unique opportunity to pick and choose what we need. As mentioned earlier, the XL trim offers an incredible value and I think most people will have all essential options with this trim. I am already looking for aftermarket wheel options and hope to find something nice to match the truck.

I could not get this truck without the keypad. I leave my keys in every Ford I own and they all have the same code. The remote start on this is an even bigger plus for having it.

Is app controlled remote start not included with all trims?

* Easy upgrade ... pre-drilled/ pre-threaded holes availble on th XL bed to add missing D-rings and/or custom tiedown hooks. 10 tie down points in no time.

- XL has a black Grille bar

* Fully integrated (one piece) Grille and Bar ... easy to replace both at once with an aftermarket grille.

- the small storage box in the bed area: (a.k.a. "cubby")

* ... the opening(s) are there on the XL bed (on both sides of the bed - including where the inverter outlet/ light would have been) but covered with a plate ... easy after market fabrication of a (lockable) "cubby" compartment on both sides.

Since the unveiling of the Maverick - in particular for the Hybrid engine option - more and more XL features have been discovered and/or uncovered to make the XL go (IMHO - with some DIY modifications) from 40% of the XLT to 70% of the XLT features.

I actually did the reverse....I changed my order from XL to XLT.
Must haves for me are the Wheels, Cruise Control, and Power Mirrors, also the rear seat cup holder fold down when taking the kids on a trip
However, i did consider installing the options missed if I stayed with the XL....but ultimately I felt that the price difference was not worth it, let alone the aggravation of getting the work done.

Fair points.
My XL has power mirrors through pilot 360 and the only other thing I need to add immediately are the other wheels. I consider looking for new wheels as fun and not hassle. I enjoy maximizing the value of the car for the price I am paying.

But again, get your points and those are all valid considerations.

It is. That means keys stay in the truck and I start with my phone. That's y I did not get lux pack

I switched from XLT hybrid to XL AWD for about 1k difference. reserved 6/14 just got email from dealership that I’m scheduled for 10/4. The options with the XLT are nice and the hybrid mpg would be great but having AWD at this price tipped me to the XL.

You are commended for making a decision on what you need versus want. Congrats

Now you have money in your pocket to customize it

I dont know how much the rail lights are from Ford but my understanding is it is prewired to the cubbies and an easy aftermarket DIY My teenager wants me to order my truck now so he can install his led light strip that changes colors through an app so he can change colors at night while im driving.

It amazes me what floats a teenagers boat. I am relieved it isnt sex, drugs and rock and roll in my teen years. Long live rock and roll and the forgotten guitar solo!

Does the Ford app also allow you to lock/unlock the truck from your phone? You might not need the keypad.

The app allows lock/unlock of the doors on the ranger, not sure about the maverick.
The manual is floating around the web. That answer might be in there somewhere.

It does:

FORDPASS CONNECT
Standard on all models.

Embedded 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot can be used to connect up to 10 mobile devices

Owners can schedule times to start the truck remotely

FordPass App also allows owners to find their truck, check fuel level and lock/unlock their doors(3)
