I took my AWD FX4 XLT-Lux with the 4K Towing Pkg to the dealer for a minor adjustment yesterday morning. While there, they performed a 'software update' to the towing package as a safety recall. It went South. Now my Maverick is inoperative at the dealer. As we near the end of the second day, they tell me they are not able to provide an estimate of when it will be fixed. My Maverick is my only vehicle. Ah, the modern world and its conveniences!

My Gosh, does Ford not test these updates before releasing to customers. Where is Quality Control? Or did the dealer tech do something incorrect to make it go that bad

I got a rental this afternoon; a Nissan Frontier from Enterprise. It can be left at the dealership when no longer needed. The dealer said they'd pay for that today and tomorrow. This may lead to further discussion with the dealer. After all, I did drive a functional Maverick into their property yesterday morning. It's rather ironic, I drove a Nissan Frontier since 2006 until I decided I wanted a new Maverick. The worrisome part is we have a road trip to San Antonio scheduled for next week.

If im not mistaken, enterprise is “unlimited” mileage rentals and im sure Ford would pay for there screwup. If not you call corporate and raise hell.

I bet the module bricked when they flashed it and they dont have a spare trailer module to swap in.

So, not trying to question the dealer's process, but did they say which module bricked? Was it just the TRM? If so, they should be able to order the replacement module and give your truck back in the meantime. Were they still trying to recover the original module?

I could see them trying to recover the original module, esp if the replacement is on backorder (more likely than not), but if it's keeping you out of your truck and in a rental, they should at least give you the option.

I'm sure Ford tested it fine before they sent out the recall. My guess it had to do more with the dealer than the firmware update from Ford. Here's how I know. I've had the recall done with no issue at all.

Anyway, best of luck OP. Hope your dealer gets it sorted out soon for you and you're back in your Mav in no time!:)

Yup, b/c other Mav owners on here have said they've rolled away just fine after the Trailer fix.

I'm one of those computer nerds, and my take is most techs would rather work on lowering / lifting this truck than waste their time reprogramming modules. o_O

Computer changes are in the mind -- ya gotta visualize what's going on, read logs & codes, read from a 2nd diagnostic computer to decipher what the problem module is doing, etc. Boring, computer, desk job stuff.

Mechanical changes are in their hands -- techs can literally see what's happening, grab a screwdriver, tweak the thing, watch what happens, etc. Fun stuff that techs can feel & hear. It's totally different worlds yet we expect 1 tech to like both.

Not blaming techs. Just saying it's 2 very different worlds.

Inattention to the computer side is a problem I've seen in my other vehicle.
