Ordered all the parts I need and my hybrid XL is slated to be delivered in a week, but I had a couple of questions.

  • Will the 2 month trial of Forscan that I've signed up for work or will I need some beta build of the software?
  • How do I rewire the connectors? Anyone have a video or something they can link?
1. Let me know when you are ready to program and I can send the beta build I have. The normal build will not work.

2. Unfortunately I don’t know of a video to show…! I am here to help with specific questions though!

Well I finally got a chance to try this out today. I was able to get it to mostly work but there are a lot of different as-built settings from what was posted here for my truck since its a Lariat. I started with the as-built code posted here, but many of the extra features from before were disabled, most importantly the ambient lighting :D. I took screenshots of all the settings from my old APIM in easy mode and tried to replicate most of them as best as I could. There were still a lot of intermittent issues after that. The worst part was I was able to connect wireless Android auto initially, but after a power cycle it didn't work anymore.

There are so many settings and potential problems to be created in the as-built code its overwhelming. Nothing like the old mk4 VW's I'm used to working on! Although it was extremely easy to depin those two wires from the APIM connector once I figured out how. That was much easier than my old car.
So try this! This website was awesome and a life saver in regards to figuring this out. It will decode the sync 3 as built and should help translate it to sync 4. The wireless CarPlay issue sounds like you accidentally activated the Wi-Fi in the as built which breaks wireless app projection needed for CarPlay/android auto.

I was poking around in that website a few weeks ago, tons of good information on there. I'll do some more research and give it another go.

That sounds like the exact problem I had. Projection was turned off at some point and I couldn't turn it back on.

When I was pairing my phone, the Bluetooth name came up as Ford Fiesta. Did you see the same? I wonder if there is a way to change that.

I'm pretty sure the first atomic bomb was easier to assemble.
I'm still kinda amazed that they were able to do that (and radar and other stuff) with 1940s tech.

IRT topic Synch 4 sounds neat, but personally not something I'd feel safe trying to do.

You can change the name by going into Bluetooth settings on the screen. It gets stored in as built which is why it displays that currently.

Zack may have to correct me if im wrong since its been a little while since I did this but after you program everything you will need to do a master reset. That got wireless projection to stay on for me. Also to change the name that is done inside Sync. It is in the bluetooth configs in the actual interface. I changed mine to maverick.

That makes sense since every time I wrote changes it seemed to just cause random problems. How do you do a master reset? Disconnect the battery?

Has to be initiated from the screen. I believe it’s in general, reset. Be warned though that this will disable FordPass if you have it setup. Once the master reset is complete, go back to settings and go to mobile apps, FordPass and make sure that at least notifications are enabled. You should be able to then reactivate FordPass. If it doesn’t work, you will need to swap the old APIM back in, activate FordPass, and then reinstall the sync 4 APIM.

5. ACM passthrough Harness: This is a passthrough harness designed for AMP installs but can also be used for the custom wiring of this swap without the need to modify the OEM harness installed in the vehicle. I would suggest selecting the DIY option at $40 as there will be some extensive modification to this harness. 2018-2023 Select Ford Elite Harness (lljcustoms.com)

Can you clarify which harness to buy from this site? The link brings me to the Elite harness that gives many options (loop, T-harness), but in the text you mention using the DIY harness . I've already ordered the Sync 4 and ACM modules. Looking forward to doing this ASAP.

I've noticed this mod doesn't include swapping the actual sync touchscreen display. I'm not sure if it's just me, but compared to my wife's 2022 Escape hybrid with sync 3, this Maverick screen is very dim even with the brightness turned all the way up. Would this mod increase the brightness or would that require a new screen? Thanks in advance.

Interesting that they have removed the DIY option. Go with the T harness option. With that you should just be able to connect the two speaker outputs together.

It is possible the UI might be brighter but it shouldn’t effect the actual brightness the screen is capable of getting to.

The site does have a DIY harness area. Would the one you are talking about in the first post now located there? https://lljcustoms.com/collections/llj-diy-harnesss/LLJDIY

Thank you for this great work! I'm looking forward to getting this done soon. All of the parts are ordered and on their way.

Is there any way you could provide more info for creating the harness? In the pinout diagram where you say "add to gray ACM connecter", it doesn't specify where on that connector to add the wire. Also, are you soldering all the wires and using shrink tubing for each wire?

Any additional information you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
