I have the same mirror on order, I had a dash cam installed already, I was thinking of tapping into the dash cam wires....
I too am thinking about opening up the dash cam plug harness and just using those three. I’m just wondering if the transformer thingy (that monitors voltage) actually supplies more juice than needed though.

I don't see why you couldn't, unless you're considering tapping into the wires at the cam rather than at the fuse panel.

You would tap before the "transformer thingy"(I also don't know what it is). Where you still see three wires

Okay well I take back what I said 😆. I had some wire lying around so I extended the wire to the other side of the dash cam transformer (or whatever it’s named). I figured it’s not much work so why not.

I ran the solid black wire to my 12V and the black/white to the accessory. Ground I just used another bolt behind the dash piece on the side. I like to be able to open and shut my door without the truck on. My van is this way too and I never had an issue.

For less than $20 shipped this is a heck of an upgrade.

Just so I understand ... your plan is to tap into the cam wires at the camera point as opposed to tapping into the wires at the fuse panel point?

Yes, the Camera comes on when the truck is turned on. Much easier then running wiring

I like the concept, but I'm wondering how you would connect without leaving behind a wiring mess around the mirror or wherever you mounted the cam. Assuming your cam is mounted near the rear view mirror.

Yup about 2 inches, this way the Cam is hidden sort of.

Ok, so can you post a photo? I have to wonder how you managed to tap into the cam wires cleanly. And, apologies if you've already posted said picture.
