A long while ago I recall seeing an automotive related article in which the author expressed their concern that due to advanced safety features becoming standard in cars, such as features which stop the car as soon as it detects something like a young child on a bicycle or pet like a large dog that someone might not be able to react to in time, or see before they can react.

This is good, as I because I am interested in the Ford Maverick as a future vehicle, I have seen others comment of how the Maverick has a lot of blindspots (if anyone has any diagrams or pictures sharing which I would like to see) and that the Ford Co-Pilot360 is a good option for this issue. I don't drive a vehicle with advanced features, and I have learned to stay alert and react as quick as possible. I do like the idea of the Co-Polit tech for the blind spot issues, but worry about replying on them, or them becoming a nuisance.

Don't mind me asking as I could use the input of those who are experienced with driving vehicles with a advanced safety features.

I think drivers are forgetting to drive safely for a lot of reasons. I don't think the safety systems are even in the top 5, though.
I see thanks. I will have to look more into that.

Wasn't this argument made when seatbelts we're mandated decades ago? Fact seems to be that safety tech keeps advancing and fatality rates keep going down year after year.

Edit: ok, looks like fatalities per miles traveled have been mostly flat for the past decade. But it hasn't gone up, so it's hard to say that say safety tech is killing people

Go get a chair and sit on a pedestrian bridge or hill that gives you a good view into cars. Easily 1/10 drivers are looking at their phone. It's probably closer to 1/4 but it's very easy to see 10%.

I used to ride the bus. I brought along some clicker counters. On a 4 lane highway in 20 mph traffic, ~1/4 drivers in the second fastest lane had their hands on their phone and ~1/8 we're actively using them. I did this test 7 times across two months and the numbers held.

Even in a hands free state where I only drive ~ 3 miles a day i see at least two a day actively staring at their phone or mysteriously focused on their crotch. It's usually much more but two is guaranteed

I think this proves my point about zombies.

Here's a guy wearing the newest advanced head protection safety tech.

Ok... he's not actually a zombie. But the tech has obviously killed his sense of humor.

I agree 100% I have been a driving School instructor for many years. The things I have seen and the things I have been told Are unreal. Driving is not a part-time job It is a full time JOB . So pay attention a computer can't do everything for you !!! And the life you save may be your own or one of your loved ones. ☠☠

Wow wow now that is personal buddy, that one below the belt. you dont know howamy times that thing has saved my life and how much oxygen deprivation it has given me. Plus I see you really have affinity to my scuba helmet. And you have mentioned it before.😉

I see you are a undersea 🤿fairing man.

You're right... I don't know how many times it has saved your life. Just more of my ignorance.

But I am getting a fairly good feel for how much oxygen deprivation you've experienced.

I am jealous of the helmet, though. I missed that era and started with the old double-hose, tank-mounted regulators of the Lloyd Bridges Sea Hunt variety.

In my experience (and opinion), most people are simply terrible drivers regardless of the car they own or the tech it has. It is simply too easy in the USA to obtain a license to operate a motor vehicle.

We've owned many cars with advanced tech and many without. I don't really understand the concept of, as you say, "relying" on them. Does this mean you rely on LKA to keep you in the lane, AEB to stop you? What does "relying" on them even mean?

The safety features are worth having because no one is infallible. Even the best among us make mistakes from time to time, and in those instances the safety features provide a layer of protection and a buffer that could mean the difference between an at fault accident or completely avoiding one.

On another forum someone said they would never buy a vehicle with a data logger in it. Told them to look under the drivers seat they have been there for years. Also police can monitor your Onstar without a warrant unless you pay for the service.

Nope…. Covid issues…. I’ve watched and it makes no difference on the year of the vehicles… people got brain fog from covid and they forgot how to drive. They change lanes without looking, pissing off other drivers who then drive aggressively and it continues to build until everyone driving has an attitude. Speaking of builds…. Where is my Maverick?
